Heart of the House August 2025 | | |
Dear Friends,
I can't believe it's almost time for back to school! It feels like we were just celebrating the end of the school year—and already, we’re planning for what’s ahead.
At Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston, planning is at the heart of everything we do. We’re already preparing for the fall and winter months, which bring special meals, holiday gifts, and extra expenses to ensure that families feel supported during a difficult time of their lives. If you'd like to help us get a jump start on the holiday season, consider making a donation today by clicking here.
August is also National Make-A-Will Month—a timely reminder that planning for the future is one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones. Our Legacy of the Heart Society members have thoughtfully included our mission in their plans, helping to ensure that we can serve families for generations to come.
As we look to the future, I’m also pleased to share that our own planning for growth continues. Our organization has expanded in size, services, and reach, and I’m delighted to introduce our new Financial Controller, Yaniri Singh, whose expertise will help guide us through the exciting opportunities yet to come.
With thanks and gratitude,

A Lasting Legacy of Love
August is Make-A-Will Month—a good time to plan ahead and reflect on what matters most. Wills aren’t just for the wealthy; they’re an important tool for anyone who wants their wishes honored. Whether it’s through a will, trust, or other estate plan, having clear instructions in place brings peace of mind to loved ones.
If you already have a will, estate professionals recommend reviewing it every three to five years—or sooner if there’s a major life change, like a move, marriage, or the arrival of a child or grandchild.
We are deeply grateful for the generous supporters who have included RMHC Greater Houston in their estate plans. Their foresight helps ensure families have a home away from home when they need it most. To honor these friends, we created the Legacy of the Heart Society—a community whose lasting gifts will help keep families close for generations to come.

| | Our Brainy Campers are THRIVE-ing! | |
Throughout July, kiddos at Holcombe House enjoyed THRIVE camp- a STEM based day camp open to all resident littles with a mind for science and creativity. The campers had so much fun that even some parents couldn't resist joining in!
Our high-energy teen counselors and higher-energy young campers went on field trips, learned about velocity by racing office chairs through the hallways, and conducted fun science experiments like making Mentos bombs, testing bubble gum, and separating the "m" from M&M candy shell.
Our THRIVE camp is one of many education initiatives for patients and siblings at RMHC Greater Houston during their family's medical journey.

Our newly launched House Heroes program at RMHC Greater Houston gives experienced volunteers a chance to step into leadership roles that really make a difference.
We asked 21 of our most engaged and trusted volunteers to help support our program in big ways—through training, mentoring, outreach, interviews, and serving as our Volunteer Committee. They work closely with the Volunteer Services team to share feedback, offer insight from their time in the field, and help shape the volunteer experience at Holcombe House, Texas Children's Hospital and Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.
More than just a leadership group, House Heroes are champions of service. We can't wait to see the amazing impact they will have on our organization.

We are thrilled to welcome Yaniri Singh to the RMHC Greater Houston team as our Financial Controller.
Yaniri’s long history in the non-profit sector began when she took classes through a local organization and was inspired to join AmeriCorps — a federal agency dedicated to strengthening communities through national service and volunteering. Her time at AmeriCorps began as a volunteer and led to a job at the agency, where she quickly advanced from receptionist to adult education specialist to administrative professional.
Next, Yaniri spent over a decade at Bay Area Turning Point — an organization committed to ending domestic and sexual violence. As Director of Finance, she managed budgets, financial reporting, audits, compliance, and grant oversight to further the organization’s mission.
“I have always worked for non-profits because I want to be part of a group making a difference in the community,” says Yaniri. “To be part of something bigger.”
When she joined RMHC Greater Houston, Yaniri was immediately struck by the energy in the House. “It was a bit unexpected at first,” she says about being surrounded by the daily bustle of families and kids at Holcombe House, “but I can directly see how we are helping families.”
In her free time, Yaniri loves traveling and visiting National Parks — she has visited nine parks in the U.S., plus one in Canada.
As RMHC Greater Houston continues to expand services, facilities, and the number of families we support, we are confident that Yaniri’s non-profit financial expertise will help guide us into the future.
