Black History Month is the perfect opportunity to help children learn about all of the amazing African American professionals, entrepreneurs, entertainers, educators, scientists, inventors, and more who shape our society. From seeking out locally black-owned businesses to researching historical figures who paved the way towards civil rights, please take time this month (and all year!) to celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments made throughout Black History.

Dear Caregivers,

It’s February!

And that means it’s National Children’s Dental Health Month – a great time to promote the benefits of good oral hygiene, because developing good dental health habits helps children get a jump start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

Parents and amazing caregivers like you are essential and can promote children's dental health this month and throughout the year.

Introduced to the public by the American Dental Association on February 8, 1949, this annual health observance brings together thousands of dedicated professionals, health care providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers, parents, and all our communities.

We can best support our children’s dental health by practicing the following steps consistently:

·  Schedule Appointments

Making an appointment at the dentist is one of the best ways to celebrate February's theme. The more time they spend with their dental professionals, the more comfortable they'll be when they visit. It is encouraged for children to have regular cleanings every 6 months. If you schedule an appointment in February, your child's second appointment will fall just-in-time before back-to-school in August.

·   Buy New Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 to 4 months, as frayed bristles decrease their effectiveness.

·   Check on Your Child’s Brushing Technique

If your kids tend to brush their teeth unattended, take time this month to check-in on their brushing habits. Checking in with your kids and offering helpful tips and tricks will keep their teeth looking great and healthy.

Setting the foundation for our children earlier in life, will set them up for success in the future.

Thank you for your love and commitment to our children and their families. Every day, you take the necessary steps to help strengthen and preserve family bonds.

We appreciate everything that you do!

Sincerely,

Tim Burch

Happy Valentine’s Day

At of the beginning of January 2023, The Children’s Service Guild began meeting once again at our workshop located on Child Haven Campus. After a much deserved break in December, we are back working really hard for all the children in the Clark County Family Court system with lots of love. We will continue to strive to make their lives happier and full of hope with things that they have never had a chance to experience. “Our Kids’ are our mission and have been for over 50 years! We sponsor and fund many programs for them so they can achieve success in their lives. 100% of fundraiser proceeds and donations go to them with all members tirelessly volunteering their time. We are very dedicated to bettering their lives, always have and always will be.

We want to thank everyone who helped the high school seniors with their college scholarship applications we are granting. We will look at them and decide who will receive the fall 2023 scholarships after they are all in. Such a great program!

We are having our annual Valentine’s cupcake decorating party for Child Haven on Feb. 11th. Such a fun time for them and all of us!!

If you or anyone you know, would like to join Children's Service Guild, please contact Marsha Manning, Vice President and Membership Committee Chairwoman.

Why are CASA volunteers in some courtrooms, but not all?

At this time, there are not enough CASA volunteers to represent every dependency case. CASA volunteer assignment depends on three primary conditions. First, there must be a petition filed on the case. Second, the judge must issue the CASA order. Third, the CASA program must identify a volunteer who is available to represent the child(ren). Because many CASA volunteers work fulltime, they are not always available to attend the court hearings due to scheduling conflicts.

To learn more about the CASA program, visit them online at CasaLasVegas.org or call 702.455.CASA(2272)
