Theological Education Sunday

Theological Education Sunday is October 5th. In Ephesians, Paul writes that “we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ…” Part of our growing up and into Christ is the important work of theological education, both for lay persons and clergy.

The Diocese of Texas (EDOT) is involved with theological education in several ways, and parishioners and clergy may participate in these programs:

  • Seminary of the Southwest: The diocese supports the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, which is located in Austin and was founded by a former Bishop of Texas.
  • Iona School for Ministry: The diocese operates the Iona School for Ministry, a program that provides training for bi-vocational priests, deacons, and lay ministers.
  • Education for Ministry (EfM): EDOT promotes EfM, a four-year theological study and reflection course for laypersons.

In support of Theological Education, all loose plate offerings Sunday, October 5th will be donated to The Seminary of The Southwest and Iona School for Ministry. Please give generously.

Matthew was a collaborator with the oppressive imperial Roman occupation of Palestine. Yet it was to this man that Jesus said, follow me, and, amazingly, he got up and followed him. The call of Matthew was a sign given by Jesus to the world of what the reign of God actually looks like. It is a kingdom of sinners, outcasts, and misfits.

Sunday Card Ministry
Have you noticed the cards on the table as you enter the church on Sunday? Well, one of our parishioners sets these cards out for us to sign and send a greeting to someone we may not have seen in a while, or someone who is ill.

Please take a minute as you come in, or before you leave to sign the cards and maybe write a brief note.

MISSION & OUTREACH AT GRACE

Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before you

all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us

to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick,

and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those

who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow

into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for

our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
