Weekly News from Zion and our Ministries Under the Cross: Evergreen Academy & Nina's Place

February 12, 2025

Thank You, Pastor!

At the beginning of this month, Pastor Cathy Lauterhahn informed us and the Office of the Bishop of her intention to conclude her service as our stated supply pastor at the end of February.

Pastor Cathy has been an advocate for Zion's ministries (especially Nina's Place) and a steady and gentle voice for the last two years. She has been a witness to our reception of new members, baptisms, confirmations, and first communions. And, she has been a faithful preacher of the gospel and presider at the Lord's Table. As she moves toward retirement from full-time ministry as a chaplain, we know that this new chapter will be filled with many visits to grandchildren, more travel, and plenty of reading!

Our congregational leaders will continue to be in conversation with Pastor Jonathan Gantt (our conference dean) and the Office of the Bishop about the best ways to ensure continued pastoral leadership on Sundays and beyond.

Please join us for worship on Sunday, February 23rd as we bid Pastor Cathy God speed in our worship service, and celebrate her ministry with a special coffee fellowship following worship.

Eat Ice Cream & Decorate Alleluia Banners on Sunday, February 16th

Two Zion traditions converge after worship on Sunday, February 16th: an ice cream social and arts & crafts! Did you know Alleluia means "Praise the Lord" and we do not use that word in worship during Lent? Join us for a delicious fellowship hour in Katie Luther Chapel as we celebrate praising our Lord in creative ways!

Worship at Zion: There's a place for you.

6th Sunday after Epiphany

Blessings and curses abound on the sixth Sunday after Epiphany. We would do well to listen closely to whom the “blessed ares” and the “woe tos” are directed and to find our place in the crowd among those who desire to touch Jesus. The risen Christ stands among us in the mystery of the holy supper with an invitation to live in him, and offers power to heal us all.
