Weekly News from Zion and our Ministries Under the Cross: Evergreen Academy & Nina's Place

November 5, 2025

A Busy Week at Zion & Evergreen Academy

Last Sunday afternoon, we hosted the annual Broward-Bahamas Conference Worship Service in Katie Luther Chapel. Pastors, ministers, and members from five churches in our conference gathered for worship in English and Spanish and an inspiring message from Pastor Carlos Ham, our Assistant to the Bishop and Director for Evangelical Mission.

On Wednesday morning, "Ms. Gail" offered the chapel message for our preschoolers talking about the Ten Commandments. She talked about rules that we follow at school and at home and all the rules that God has for us. Each preschooler in the threes and VPK went home with a Ten Commandments bookmark to remind them of God's important rules.

Also on Wednesday morning, we welcomed teams from FOUR area Lowe's stores for a Lowe's Heroes Give Back Day. They painted the green doors and ribbon on the interior courtyard, laid six pallets of mulch in our playground, built and sealed five picnic tables for outdoor eating, and assembled three garden beds for an upcoming garden project especially for our preschool students. Thank you to Lowe's for sharing their time, talent, and treasure!

Our Halloween festivities began with a Trunk or Treat on Tuesday evening. Thank you to all of the families that participated, the explorers and officers from the Deerfield Beach BSO, and Andre from Rita's Italian Ice. It was a triumphant return for this event that we hadn't done since before COVID—and we're already looking forward to next year's event!

Thursday morning, our preschoolers donned their costumes again for the annual Halloween Parade around the courtyard. Thank you to all of our dedicated teachers, directors, room moms, and parents for making this event a rousing success yet again.

Memorial Service for Pam Campbell

On Monday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Kraeer Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens (Pompano Beach), we will remember and celebrate the life of Pamella Campbell. Pam and her daughter, Lee, were faithful Saturday night worshippers for many years. We hold Lee and her family in our prayers as they mourn the loss of their mother and friend.

Decorating for the Holidays

Do you share the holiday spirit of Clark W. Griswold from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation? This year, we would like to give as much attention to decorating (tastefully) the outside of the church as we give to decorating the inside. If you're interested in being part of the planning/decorating team, please reach out to Kurt.

Opportunities to "Just Show Up"

First Friday in October

Friday, November 7th at 6:00 p.m.

Phat Boi Sushi, Kitchen, and Bar

949 S. Federal Highway

Deerfield Beach, FL 33441

Everyone pays their own way, but there's always more room at the table. If you can make it one month but can't make it the next, that's okay!

Have You Entered Your Business into Our Directory?

Thank you to those who have already entered their business details into our new Community Business Directory for our Zion and Evergreen Academy families! This resource will provide a simple way for us to connect with and support one another by highlighting the gifts, skills, and businesses within our community.

If you would like to be included in the directory, please take a few minutes to enter your business information in the shared Google Sheet by clicking the link below. You can share your business name, contact information, and a short description of the products or services you provide.

Opportunities to Serve Joyfully & Give Selflessly

Thanks to Generous Givers!

We need to replace both of the AC units in the sanctuary and we’re asking every household in the Zion community to make a special gift toward the cost of this replacement. If you give online, choose the "Capital Improvements" fund. Together, we can meet this need!

Thank you to those who have given so far toward the completion of this project:

Worship at Zion: There's a place for you.

This Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

22nd Sunday after Pentecost

Second Sunday Healing Service

We worship on the first day of the week because Jesus was raised on that day. Every Sunday is a little Easter. This Sunday feels more like Easter than many as the appointed texts celebrate the reality of the resurrection. Live it up this Lord’s day. Our God is the God of the living.

Sunday's bulletin can be found here.
