The Volunteer Connection
Summer 2021

Hey Friends!
We hope you have been staying cool during these hot summer months! We are excited to start recruiting 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance projects. 9/11 Day's "initiative exists as a permanent and positive tribute to those killed and injured in the 9/11 attacks, and as a result of other terrorist acts around the world, and in honor of the many brave individuals who have risen in service in response to these tragedies." This year marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In previous years HandsOn has organized community-wide donation drives for troops serving in Iraq and Afganistan and more recently has organized letters being sent to first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that you will join us on Saturday, September 11, 2021, to help transform the anniversary into a day of "unity and good deeds to help those most in need." Yours in service,
Amy, Kathy, and Casey

2020's 9/11 Day of Service Virtual Celebration

Honoring Forsyth County Volunteers
|

On May 5, 2021, HandsOn had the honor of celebrating and elevating local volunteers and their service in our community during our Virtual Governor's Volunteer Service Awards Event. Normally we host an in-person breakfast, where community members and volunteers are able to come together and celebrate service- Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic would not allow that.
This year, 14 wonderful volunteers were awarded for their services. Visit our digital program to read their amazing stories. Later in June, we were fortunate enough to be able to host a drive-thru award pick-up event!

Strong, knowledgeable boards help organizations gain credibility, build financial resources by providing access to the community, and serve as advocates and ambassadors of the organization. In so many ways, the last year has brought significant challenges to all of us--individually, collectively, and, especially, as a community of nonprofits and volunteers. Now, perhaps more than ever, we're seeing the critical contributions of VOLUNTEERS and the work they do in our community. In many ways, these stories of service have served as inspiration and "points of light" in otherwise dark times. HandsOn would like to raise $2,500 that will be used to support and honor our volunteers. Please help us celebrate our amazing volunteers who have selflessly served the community during the last year, by making a donation in their honor.
