I hope that you are finding ways to enjoy your summer, even in the middle of a pandemic. It's tough right now. I feel very fortunate to live in the middle of an outdoors paradise. We can cool down by finding water without leaving our local area. Masks are required in our store, but they are not required out in nature (properly distanced of course). It's a relief to get outside.
This was a week for iced and blended drinks. While sitting at my desk, it seemed like our blenders were going nonstop. A big thank you to all of you keeping us busy. I know that it's complicated to follow all the guidelines, and we are all thankful to those of you who make it look easy. Thank you for your patronage, for your willingness to keep coming in, for putting on a mask. We appreciate you.
This week we are featuring a new
Fair Trade Organic Guatemala Atitlan Renacimiento. We brewed a pourover this afternoon, and I was immediately entranced with the pronounced nutty flavor, light chocolate aroma, and the lingering sweet grape tones on the finish. It was delicious.
This Guatemalan comes from the mountains surrounding Lake Atitlan, from the Cooperativa Agricola Integral El Renacimiento, R.L., which works with the Quiche Mayan communities in the area. According to our broker, “The cooperative has focused attention on training producers on the best organic practices to manage their farms and diversification projects like beekeeping. In addition to making their own organic fertilizer and harvesting honey, producers use their own micro-mills to process harvested cherries, which includes hand sorting, depulping, fermenting, washing and drying the coffee to 11 percent moisture” (see
here).
I am taking this coffee home for my morning treat this week, and you can try a cup on us with the code below. Our weekend plans definitely include water play and dog play. That certainly sounds like summer to me--it's a good combination. I hope that you too find a way to enjoy your weekend, and drink good coffee. Cheers!
