Message to My Constituents: A Comprehensive Plan to Improve Public Safety in Oakland

Dear Residents of Oakland,

Crime is on the rise in our community, and it's affecting all of us. There have been frightening reports of robberies, car jackings, smash-and-grabs, and even homicides. As your elected representative, I'm not just a council member, I'm also a concerned father who feels your fear. Our community is resilient, but we need more than just resilience. We need immediate and collaborative action to ensure our safety and security, both in the short and long term. The time for petty fights and political posturing is OVER. Enough is truly Enough. Let's work together to make our community safer.

Oakland awarded $40.7 million in Infill Infrastructure Grant Catalytic Funding from the State of California

Oakland, CA – The City of Oakland is one of seven California cities to receive an award from the State Housing and Community Development department through its Infill Infrastructure Grant Catalytic (IIGC) program.

"As an Oakland resident, I have seen how housing and infrastructure pose a daily challenge, especially for vulnerable communities. The recent state grant offers hope and progress by funding more affordable housing and infrastructure improvements, said Councilmember Kevin Jenkins. "This grant will help build a more sustainable, inclusive, and thriving Oakland, while ensuring that everyone has access to affordable housing. It will play a vital role in shaping Oakland's future, and we are confident we can make the most of it." Read the full press release.

Sequoyah Hills Neighbors Unite to Address Public Safety Concerns in Block Party Meeting

I am grateful to all those who hosted National Night Out events last month. These efforts to promote public safety and build community relationships are invaluable, and I would like to extend a special thanks to Lolita Morelli, a dedicated constituent who has hosted NNO events for many years and remains actively involved in her neighborhood. She and other members of the Sequoyah Hill Homeowners Association have invited me to speak at their upcoming annual meeting and block party, where we will discuss public safety and public works issues. If you would like me to speak at your community meetings, please do not hesitate to contact my office directly.
