Rev. Tom Preaching
"Turmoil: Love Isn't for the Faint of Heart"
This story reflects serious tension between Jesus' followers (who thought he was the Messiah); his message of equity and care for the powerless, and the response that people had to turn to God rather than the powers of the "Empire". Rev. Tom will consider what a Christian's relationship is with politics and government; the tension between the prophetic message of Jesus and the political position of the status quo and those in power; and the risk one takes when one follows Jesus and potentially loses the privilege of being in with the religious and political elite.
Prayer for This Sunday:
Holy God, pour your light down upon me, that I may see you where I least expected to, and follow in your way rather than in the way of the world. Amen.

"The Book of Longings" by Sue Monk Kidd
Virtual Potluck and Discussion
Friday, June 5 - 6 pm
An extraordinary story set in the first century about a woman who finds her voice and her destiny... The book's premise evokes a fascinating question: How would the world be different if Jesus had married and his wife was part of the story?
~~~
Grounded in meticulous research and written with a reverential approach to Jesus’s life that focuses on his humanity, "The Book of Longings" is an inspiring, unforgettable account of one woman’s bold struggle to realize the passion and potential inside her, while living in a time, place and culture devised to silence her.
