Note from Pastor Hardy
Dear Friends,

I hope that you have seen all the information about our Holy Week services and our Easter Sunday worship. Perhaps by the time you’re reading this, you will have already had a chance to participate in some of them.

Holy Week is always special, but I think this year our worship services feel particularly significant. We’re marking moments where Jesus shared in pain and struggle with his friends, and where he stood up to hard realities of the world and paid the price. I think this year—with the pandemic and the ways we’ve grown in understanding that God’s good news compels us to stand with the oppressed—that we might be able to dig deep into the heart of Holy Week in ways that are new to many of us.

And, so, I hope that will also lead to new discoveries of Easter joy for you all. With the pain and struggle of these recent days, I pray that God’s Spirit will also bring us healing and insight, and new revelations of the depths of God’s love for all creation.

I look forward to seeing you all in worship. I pray that you will all be blessed with the experience of encountering the resurrection power of God in the days to come.

Faithfully,
News from Pastor Karin
Dear Friends,

I hope to see you this evening for our Good Friday service on Zoom. You can join us the same way you join us for Sunday morning service. I love how Good Friday more fully prepares us for the celebration of Easter morning.

Speaking of Easter, I’m looking forward to that celebration. It will be a celebration rich in breadth of music and proclamation. Every Sunday is a mini Easter, but how glorious it is when we come to this point in our church year and get to join (via Facebook or our website) in full celebration of Jesus’ resurrection!

We have much to celebrate—I can’t wait to do so with you!

Peace,
Sunnyvale Unity Event: AAPI Solidarity
Wednesday, April 7 • 6:30 p.m. • Virtual Gathering (details below)

The City of Sunnyvale is hosting a Unity event with the goal to uplift the voices and concerns of our Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Pastor Hardy Kim will be one of the featured speakers, along with Richard Konda, Asian Americans Advancing Justice/Asian Law Alliance, Sarita Kohli, Asian Americans for Community Involvement, Otto Lee, Santa Clara County Supervisor, Jeff Rosen, Santa Clara County District Attorney, and Phan Ngo, Sunnyvale’s Chief of Public Safety.

There has been an alarming increase in anti-Asian hate incidents across the country since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The recent high-profile hate crime cases in the Bay Area and mass shooting in Atlanta have heightened fears in our AAPI community.

Sunnyvale takes pride in the incredible diversity of people who form the rich fabric of our city and we condemn these racist attacks.

Sadly, the issue of bigotry and hatred is not new. In 2019, we came together to acknowledge that hate and fear exist in our community and to heal after a horrific hate crime in Sunnyvale. Last year, we held a series of listening sessions to discuss systemic racism disproportionately impacting the Black community. Now, it is time for us to stand in solidarity with our Asian American community members. We must pull together again to acknowledge and discuss ways to address hate and bigotry. We invite you to share your thoughts and stories.

Please join and partner with us as we foster a culture of belonging where all members of our diverse community feel included, heard and respected.
