Note from Pastor Hardy
Dear Friends,

Many of you will remember that our session voted to adopt a statement expressing our desire to be a fully inclusive and affirming congregation for LGBTQIA+ persons. You can find this statement on a special section of our website and it reads: “Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make our church a true community of hospitality, Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church works for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people in the life, ministry, and witness of our church and society.”

We are continuing to work at living into the fullness of this vision. We’re trying to resource everyone in the community to understand how we can better live out God’s expansive love and grace in relationship with one another through conversations and learning opportunities. We’re finding ways to update our campus to make it more inclusive of people of all genders through an update of our bathrooms (you’ll hear more about this soon). Even the language we use to talk about God and ourselves is something we’ll be addressing more consciously as we update nametags for everyone coming into worship.

We are blessed to be accompanied on this journey of growing in God’s love by a network of Presbyterians called More Light Presbyterians (MLP). You can find out more about who they are here.

MLP has graciously answered so many questions for us and has connected us to a vast array of resources for understanding what it means to be a truly inclusive and affirming community. That’s why, this coming Sunday, July 25, I am so happy so share we’ll be experiencing the gift they offer congregations across the denomination each year—a More Light worship service with communion.

Get ready for a joyful and meaningful worship experience, and be sure to have some bread and a cup ready for communion. We’ll also have a special chance to connect with the preacher, Rev. Annanda Barclay, in our Facebook feed chat and in coffee hour. I look forward to worshipping with you and the whole cloud of More Light saints!

News from Pastor Karin
Dear Friends,

The times they are a-changin’. And a-changin’. And a-changin’. :) And your staff, in partnership with medical professionals from our congregation, are seeking to stay nimble and responsive to all that we learn. We’re still planning for August 15 to be the date when all who choose to can worship together in the sanctuary. If that changes, well, you’ll be among the first to know!

For those who join us from geographically diverse locations, not so much will change for you, but you might be wondering what it will be like. We’re working toward making it engaging and always keeping you in mind as we plan and lead our worship services.

And we want to keep getting to know you, too! To that end, if you live outside a reasonable commute to SVPC, I’d love to meet you on Zoom for coffee on Wednesday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. Bring your own coffee—or whatever beverage you like—and hop on Zoom to meet with others from different parts of our state or country… or perhaps beyond!

Looking forward to joining you for worship on Sunday—I’ll see you in the Facebook chat!

Communion Sunday

This Sunday, July 25, we will celebrate communion during our worship service with More Light Presbyterian. Remember to have your communion elements—some bread and drink that’s common to your home and household—with you when you connect to Sunday’s livestream worship.
Thank You to Our Zoom Worship Tech Team!

You hear their names mentioned on Sundays at the start of worship. Since March 2020, these folks have faithfully worked behind-the-scenes to coordinate the tech pieces of our online worship service every Sunday. They attend twice-weekly Zoom tech rehearsals, keep up with Zoom and Facebook updates, edit and stitch together videos, create slide decks, play and project the videos and slides, and welcome you into worship in the Facebook chat. Many of them were helping with worship tech prior to the pandemic, and moved seamlessly into remote livestream roles. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Worship with More Light Presbyterians
Sunday, July 25 • 11 a.m.

On Sunday, July 25, our worship service will be offered by More Light Presbyterians. Our preacher will be the Rev. Annanda Barclay. Annanda currently serves as pastor of Mission Bay Community Church in San Francisco, and just finished her Chaplaincy Fellowship at the Spiritual Care Services Department of Stanford Health Care. Her call focuses on queer, afro-futurist, womanist, ecological, theological, and biblical spiritual lenses applied to technology innovation.

Look for Annanda, Hardy, and Karin in the Facebook chat. Communion will be part of the service, so have your communion elements ready.

Picnic in the Park
Tuesday, August 3 • 4–6 p.m. • Serra Park

Children’s ministry will be hosting another Picnic in the Park event at Serra Park for our families and children to reconnect with each other over the summer. It will be a “Bring Your Own Picnic” event with a mixture of planned activities (lead by Children’s ministry staff) and unstructured social/play time for families. No need to register, just show up and stay for as long as you like!

This is NOT a drop-off event, meaning that parents are expected to stay with their children as long as they are present (or arrange with another parent to look after them/provide transportation).
Save the date!
"Welcome Back to Campus" Get-Together
Wednesday, August 11 • 5–7 p.m.

Come enjoy our first official all-church in-person gathering since 2020. Enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones. Bring your own picnic dinner or takeout. The playground will be open for the kids. More info to come!
In-Person Worship Begins on August 15
11 a.m. • Sanctuary

Our Worship and Welcome & Hospitality ministry teams are working hard to bring us all together as we reopen the campus for in-person worship and continue our robust online option. Our online services August 1 and 8 will be livestreamed from the sanctuary, and then on August 15 you are invited to join us in-person in the sanctuary!

Please note that we are requesting that everyone wear a mask when on the church campus. Stay tuned for much more information about all the ways we are working to make this a safe and inclusive experience for everyone, whether onsite or online!

We are refreshing our nametags and we want to include you! Please fill out this form and we will have a nametag ready for you. If you have a nametag at home, we would love to have you return your nametag holder. Simply drop it in the gold mail slot next to the library if you happen to be around the church campus, or bring it on August 15.
LOGOS is Back In Person for 2021–2022!
September 29, 2021–March 23, 2022

LOGOS is a Wednesday evening intergenerational Christian education program for children in grades 1–5. LOGOS consists of Bible study time, worship skills, dinner, recreation, mission, crafts, and games. We also hope to bring back the LOGOS Chimes Choir.

Grown-ups—join us on Wednesday evenings to have fun, build friendships with other adults, and make a difference in the faith formation of our 1st- through 5th-grade children.

Kids—this is your chance to stop worrying about school and sports. Come get silly with your friends and learn about Christ’s love for you. Contact for more information on how you can join the party.

Register your family for LOGOS here. Adult volunteers without children in the program can register here.

2021–2022 Fiscal YTD Results

May 2021 (month 2)...............$K
Church Income....................$..350
Church Expenses..................$..442
Church Deficit..................-$...92
Outreach Grps:PELC/Music School.-$ ..82

Year-to-date results are on track to budget. Our year-to-date church and outreach group deficits reflect slightly lower giving than expected (impacting church results), and the ongoing impact of the pandemic (impacting the outreach groups’ results). We continue to expect our PPP loans to cover any combined deficit this year by funding employee and facility costs.
