How a Sugar Cookie Created Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea.jpg

Many years ago I was delighted to provide teas to the proprietor of Dolce Bakery to offer his customers while they enjoyed his yummy treats. One day, while he was picking up his teas, he offered me one of his signature “old fashioned sugar cookies”. This cookie was known to melt in your mouth!

As an act of appreciation to his creation, and because I rarely indulge in sweets, I made the decision to thoroughly enjoy this cookie and began to ask myself, “Which tea would be a perfect pairing with this to die for treat?”

I couldn’t decide, which seemed a little silly because at that time I had over 80 teas to choose from in my shop. So, right there and then I decided to blend the perfect tea for that perfect sugar cookie!

I had narrowed my choices to four, English Breakfast, Nilgiri, Darjeeling and Wuyi Oolong, so I simply decided to blend those four teas together. Each would have been wonderful, but I was hopeful that the combination together would create something truly divine. I Loved It!

I tested this blend at my next Afternoon Tea and served it with the dessert course, that perfect sugar cookie, and you guessed it. It was such a hit that I named it after the event and it soon earned its rightful place on our shelves.

When you combine delicious flavors that go together you get something even more delectable than the sum of their parts. Think cinnamon and sugar. Lime and cilantro. I thought the blend of these four teas truly created an elevated harmony of flavor and I hope you agree!
