AMA Retains Policy against Assisted Suicide

I am a frequent critic of the medical establishment. But not this time. It didn't make much news, but the American Medical Association had another vote to repeal its existing policy against assisted suicide, and for the fourth time - good on them - the delegates refused to budge.

The current policy remains in place, which states in part:

Euthanasia is fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks.

Euthanasia could readily be extended to incompetent patients and other vulnerable populations.

Unconstitutional Bill That Would Hurt Women Passes PA House

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 1786, a dangerous bill that would prevent women from seeking justice if they have been harmed by a Pennsylvania abortionist operating in another state. The bill could create a haven for future Gosnells, harkening back to the days when West Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell caused the death of a female immigrant patient in his abortion facility House of Horrors. The bill passed 117 to 86, with a number of Republicans joining all but one Democrat in supporting the ill-conceived bill.

The bill’s backers claimed that it would prevent women seeking abortions in other states from being punished. But the bill would actually hurt women by blocking them from seeking justice in cases of malpractice. The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation has always recognized the fact that women who undergo abortions are often pressured to do so and are clearly victimized, as are their babies.

Over her parents' furious objections, British Courts authorize the removal of Indi Gregory's life support

Not the government of Italy, the Vatican, nor the prayers of people around the world was enough to convince legal authorities in Great Britain to allow little Indi Gregory to die at home. Born on February 24, Indi had a rare metabolic disorder known as mitochondrial disease.

Reporting for The Guardian, Josh Halliday wrote

Christian Concern, a campaigning group acting for the parents, said on Monday the judges had “denied Indi’s parents their final wish” by ordering that her life support could not be removed at home. It said the baby girl was taken from the Queen’s Medical Centre to a hospice with a security escort and a police presence, then was provided with “invasive ventilation” after her life support was removed. She died at 1.45am on Monday, the group said.

Study examines men's pivotal role in whether the woman in their life aborts

A study of men by Lifeway Research found that “Nearly four-in-10 men with either a girlfriend or a wife who had an abortion say they had the most influence on the decision to terminate the pregnancy,” according to Michael Gryboski.

Sponsored by Care Net, the study was of 1,000 men “who had a female partner get an abortion and knew of their significant other’s pregnancy before their baby was terminated.” In fact, three- quarters (74%) of men reporting that their partner talked with them prior to having an abortion. Lifeway reported that 38% of men said they had the most influence on the decision to abort.
