New Traffic Movement for

Church Street

Handicap Spaces added Downtown


The Board of Commissioners approved a new traffic movement pattern for Church Street on December 12, 2022. The new movement pattern will change Church Street to ONE WAY from Front Street to Walnut Street.

 

Signs have been installed and new movement went into effect Monday, March 20, 2023.

Additionally, five handicap spaces have been added downtown. Two on Main Street beyond Front Street (one is van accessible),one on Main Street on the left side closest to the old brick store, one on Moore Street by Swansboro Food and Beverage, and one on Church Street.

Business Showcase Cooler Winner


Congratulations to Don Loveless - winner of the Town Cooler from the annual Business Showcase held on February 25th at Rotary Club.


Over 700 patrons of the Business Showcase enjoyed a day of networking, great food samples, local performances by Mandala Yoga Center and Swansboro Dance Studio.

Employee of the Quarter


Deputy Clerk Aliette Cuadro was selected by her peers in Administration for Employee of the Quarter.


Ali has been with the Town for just over a year and brings a contagious smile and a helping hand whenever needed. She oversees the front office, assists the Town Clerk, Town Manager, and Planning office.


New Fire Chief Coming On Board


Jacob Randall will take the helm for the Fire Department on April 3rd. He holds a Masters of Sciences in Emergency Management, is a Fire Inspector Level III, holds a Fire Officer Designation and a multitude of other related professional certifications.  


Welcome Jacob! A great opportunity to meet the new Fire Chief will be during the Department Open House on May 27th - see related article above.


Swansboro High School Traffic Light Installed

A new stoplight has been installed on Queens Creek Road at the high school. The light will be in flash mode next week and fully operational the week of April 3rd. A ribbon cutting has been scheduled.

Fitness Programs

 

POUND Fitness Class

April 8-May 6, 9-10 AM

Come get fit with Ripstix! Join us at the Swansboro Recreation Center for our 5-week Pound fitness class with OFFICIAL POUND Instructor Karen Daly. Pound is a fun, total body workout that fuses the best strength training, Pilates, and cardio moves through drumming exercise. The use of Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks, challenges the body's stability and balance resulting in constant core activation. This program is appropriate for all fitness levels, ages 13+, men and women. This class is for all different experience levels and movement modifications are taught throughout the class. Register for the entire series for $25 or drop-in for $6 per individual session.

 

Every Body Move! Group Fitness

April 11-May 11, 6-7 PM

Every Body Move! Group fitness classes are available at the Swansboro Recreation Center gym! Reserve your spot for our 5-week fitness program with fitness instructor Carrie White on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7 PM. This program will challenge your core, while strengthening your full body through mobility, agility, cardio, and strength exercises at varying intensities at your own pace. This program is appropriate for adults. This class offers introductory exercises but can be advanced if appropriate. Due to the dynamic nature of functional fitness, consult with a medical professional if there are any concerns. Register for the entire series for $130.

 

Power in the Park Fitness

April 10-May 12, 12-1 PM

Take action and enhance your health by participating in Power in the Park! Join us outside the Swansboro Recreation Center for our 5-week fitness program with fitness instructor Carrie White. When you sign up, you will get 3 days of fitness instruction Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 12 PM to 1 PM. This program will challenge your core, while strengthening your full body through mobility, agility, cardio, and strength exercises at varying intensities at your own pace. This class offers introductory exercises but can be advanced if appropriate. Due to the dynamic nature of functional fitness, consult with a medical professional if there are any concerns. Register for the entire series for $130 or drop-in for $10 per individual session. To register, call (910)326-2600. No unaccompanied minors. 

 

Tai Chi

March 28-May 9, 9-10 AM

Join Tai Chi instructor Dr. Harold McMillion for a 6-week series, every Thursday starting in April at 9 AM at the Ward Shore Park located right on the water (close by the downtown area of Swansboro). Tai chi is a series of gentle physical exercises and stretches. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai chi is sometimes described as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle movements — connecting the mind and body. Ages 18+.

Spring Break Youth Sports Camp

(April 3-6), 8 AM- 5 PM

School is almost out for Spring Break, the weather is starting to get warmer, and Swansboro Parks and Recreation has a camp for your child filled with sports and fun! Our full 5-day camp will run from 8 AM-5 PM April 3-6(No Camp on Good Friday). Each day we will be covering the basics of different sports: practicing drills, learning the rules, and most of all, having some fun and friendly competition. This is not a skills improvement camp, but a fun/beginner level sports camp where kids can learn, practice, and enjoy playing all different types of sports. Some of the sports we are doing will be soccer, basketball, tennis/pickleball, kickball, dodgeball, field day, flag football, and many more. Open Play Pickleball Annual Registration 2023

MON-SAT 8AM-12PM

The 2023 Pickleball Open Play Membership will start January 1, 2023, and run until the end of the year, December 31, 2023. This is a casual and co-ed season perfect for any age or ability. The league will meet Monday through Saturday mornings from 8 am to 12 pm (spring/summer hours) and 9 am - 1 pm (fall/winter hours). $35 for resident and $40 for non-resident for the entire season, or drop-in fee of $5 for any one session.
