All-School Assemblies

Enjoy the first Spotlight Assembly of the school year above. Four days a week we gather in the Wolf Performing Arts Center for our all-school Assembly. Throughout the year, we'll be adding recordings of Assemblies to Vimeo at the link below.

Lower School

(kindergarten - fifth grade)

Settling into Lower School

September days in kindergarten through fifth grade were filled with a thoughtful balance of slowly making new friends, meeting teachers, establishing routines and diving into academics. Writing exercises provided a great way to get to know each other. In first grade students wrote their name stories to share the origin of their first names. Fourth graders went a step further and wrote their autobiographies.

Upper School

(sixth - eighth grade)

Creating Uplifting Communities in Upper School

Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders welcomed many new students in September. Through the advisory program, they have been establishing close bonds in small grade-level groups that will act as a supportive and uplifting space for students throughout the year as they navigate the challenges and joys of middle school. September is a crucial month for building relationships as students prepare for Trip Week in October.

Staffulty Spotlight

This school year we welcome seven new Staffulty (our hybrid word for staff + faculty). These individuals bring expertise in their fields and a wide range of fascinating talents, hobbies, and "joys" to the Crane community. I love being in the Oak Tree Quad. I specifically enjoy being on the wooden deck under the trees where teachers do yoga on Monday afternoons. The sun shines through the trees and rustles the leaves while we practice.

Crane Values in Action

Our individual experiences wouldn’t be possible without the collective, and an inclusive culture is a shared responsibility. Together, we ensure that every voice is heard, and that students and adults not only feel included, but that they express a strong sense of belonging as part of their experience in this community.

Opportunities to Meet, Mingle, and Build Community

September was filled with new and recurring events for families to gather and get acquainted with each other and our school. Crane would not be what it is without its community of parents and caregivers, grandparents, alumni, and, of course, its students and Staffulty. Some of this month's events included Crane Cafés on Tuesdays, the Fall Family Picnic, Lower School Back to School Night, Upper School Information Meetings, and the Coastal Cleanup at East Beach.

Other Happenings

September STEM Challenge

Students were challenged to build a bridge that can span a gap of 25cm using only plastic straws and tape. The bridge that holds the most pennies wins!

• 26 students entered the contest
• Seven grade levels were represented
• Lower School student bridges held between 350 and 750 pennies
• Upper School student bridges held between 105 and 1,450 pennies

Congrats to all of our contestants! We can't wait for next month's challenge.
