Chester County Council's

Growing Grants Support

Chester County Council is sincerely grateful for the tremendous support from our partners in the community. There is no greater gift than a Scout experiencing an outdoor adventure for the first time and overcoming their fears, or a Scout struggling to learn a new skill and then succeeding because of the positive guidance of a peer or mentor, or a Cub Scout attending their first den meeting as a shy young boy or girl and coming out of their shell over time as a result of the confidence and leadership qualities that Scouting instills in youth, or the exhilaration a Senior Patrol Leader feels as he or she leads their troop in the traditional evening retreat honoring those who serve our country at Camp Horseshoe, or perhaps it's a young Cub Scout being handed his/her first patch or belt loop in recognition of their hard work and achievements and the smile on their face says, "Yes, I did this!" How amazing are these moments? And your support helps make all these inspiring moments happen!

Scouting is an incredible journey of growth and exploration for youth and there is no other experience quite like it! Across Chester County Council, 3,300+ youth are experiencing these aspects of the Scouting program and more because of the generous support of community partners like you and the value you place on teaching and guiding the next generation of leaders. Our programs are simply not possible without you. Your generosity supported the following projects and initiatives in 2022:

* Growing membership, especially within the Cub Scout program, and growing Council's capacity to focus on recruitment efforts across our family of Scouting programs

* Sustaining general operations in the wake of the pandemic and its inherent challenges

* Hosting a weekend camporee

for disabled youth and establishing a new Scout unit for youth with physical and cognitive disabilities

* Providing camperships for Scouts in need of financial assistance to attend summer camp and/or for new Cub Scouts joining Scouting programs

* Addressing safety concerns at Horseshoe Scout Reservation to make health and safety the number priority for our campers, volunteers, and staff

* Offering Exploring - a career development program for men and women ages 14-20 providing practical, hands-on experience and connecting youth with Chester County businesses and professionals

* Equipping our shooting sport ranges at Camp John H. Ware, the 3rd and Camp Horseshoe - one of the most popular areas of summer camp annually

Your support sustains, grows, and improves Chester County Council's programs, projects, and initiatives each and every day. We can't wait to see what 2023 brings and we look forward to our continued partnership to bring exceptional programming, education, and experiences to Chester County youth. Thank you for believing in us and our mission To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”  A full list of Chester County Council's grant supporters is listed below. Scouting for Food Recap

Each year, the Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America participates in the Scouting for Food community drive. This year 786 boys, girls, and adults from 20 Cub Scout packs and 13 Scouts BSA troops participated, collecting over 26,000 pounds of food for various Chester County Food Bank distribution partners. In Phoenixville alone, the 2022 Scouting for Food effort fed 238 families Thanksgiving dinner, with a total of 800 people fed. And Parkesburg/Atglen received more than 5,000 pounds of food from the combined efforts of their local Scout units. Through this service, Scouts live out the Scout Oath "to help other people at all times."

Eagle Pavilion

The newest addition to the Oscar Lasko Program and Activities Resource Campus has arrived! Materials to build a new Eagle Pavilion were recently delivered to the premises and construction will commence when the weather is conducive to pouring concrete. The new structure will be located just off the southeastern corner of the parking lot and overlooks the rain garden and woodlands beyond. The pavilion will be utilized for programming and social needs and will provide a venue for gathering Scouts, Scouters, and the community at large. The pavilion honors the Eagle Scouts of Chester County Council and was graciously donated by the Motel Family.

Meet Kristin Conran - CCC's New Director

of Development

A lifelong resident of Greater Philadelphia, Kristin Conran earned her degree in Journalism, PR, and Advertising from Temple University. After spending 15 years as a sales leader for media companies like Philly.com, Metro Philadelphia and Digital First Media, Kristin felt a strong pull to do something more meaningful, so she earned her Certificate in Fundraising from Villanova University and made the leap into the development world. She served Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote and The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia where she was the Development Director. Kristin’s desire to give back to society, along with her talent for building strong relationships, has fueled her success, and helped her grow major gifts exponentially. She is a “roll up your sleeves and get the job done” kind of person, whose natural creativity and tenacity drive results for nonprofits.

Kristin also has a life time of experience in scouting. She was a Girl Scout and previously served as Advancement Chair for the Cradle of Liberty Council’s Troop 304. Kristin has 2 sons, one who is a Life Scout on his way to Eagle! She enjoys any new adventure, but most often you will find her on a golf course, at the beach or at the 76ers or Phillies game!

Kristin can be reached at [email protected] or 610-696-2900 x121.

Scout's Perspective

Logan Duff - Troop 78

For me, Scouting became a place to detach from the illnesses of society and enjoy what it meant to grow up. Political turmoil and Social pressures were irrelevant when whitewater rafting, hiking, fire building, and camping. This has been my favorite part about scouting. That each and every kid can find a unique way to experience scouting. Some youth give everything they have and become exceptional leaders that propel themselves and those around them into a successful future. Other youth come and hang out with their friends, joke, laugh, and play games. Scouting gives every young boy or girl the chance to find a place in an organization that will give back to their future.

Another crucial thing Scouting can do for the youth who participate. It allows them to experience leadership in all roles. First, you are the young scout looking up at the Patrol Leaders and Senior Patrols Leaders without much knowledge at all. Then, boys find their place in their troop and can build their skills while progressing forward and building bonds with those around them. They become leaders and compete with each other, learning what sportsmanship and struggle feel like. Once they have experienced those first rungs of leadership, they begin to move out of the way to allow new leaders to rise and they pass their knowledge down. They get to see how the Troop they have put their time and effort into changes and grows as their personal influence diminishes. Finally, they learn how difficult it can be to move on to a new stage in their life and take what they gained from Scouting into their future.

Scouting has taught me that in the face of an overwhelming future with countless unknowns, all you have to do is your best. My experiences have taught me that if I take the values and lessons I learned in scouting and continue to apply them in all aspects of my future, I’ll do just fine, in fact, I will excel. The effect this program has had on my life is more than I could ever express, and I am more grateful than one can put into words that I can say with confidence that I am Logan Duff, Eagle Scout of Troop 78, and I am prepared for my future because of Scouting. The legacy of this amazing program stretches so much further than just my life, my troop, or my community. It is one of the cornerstones of the next generation who will dedicate themselves to the service of each other and ensure that those who come after them can thrive. I am honored to be a part of that legacy.
