Hi Fosters!
Want to know why adult dogs are the BEST to foster? Because they are at supreme cuteness and fuzziness, they are (usually) house trained, give the best snuggles, and know their manners. That means you won't have to pick up stinky puppy poo!
A few of our furry friends at the shelter need your help! Some of these adult dogs have been here for a while, and would LOVE to wait for their furever family in your home as a "Homeward Bound" foster. These types of foster time frames can vary, but typically range anywhere from two weeks to two months.

Homeward Bound foster dogs are available for adoption through AAWL, but they get to wait for their forever family in your home instead of in a kennel. That means they are healthy dogs who have been spayed/neutered, are microchipped, and fully vaccinated. They will be the foster dog of your dreams! And because they have been with us for awhile, we usually know quite a bit about their behaviors. Unlike neonate fosters, these dogs will be able to play with your resident pets after a meet and greet (as long as they do not make you spoil them by needing to be the only dog like a few of the cuties below). They will have to come back to the shelter for any appointments with interested adopters, but these appointments are made ahead of time to suit your schedule and will be pre-screened by a staff member to ensure it could be a good fit.
Please read the descriptions below of our current available adult foster dogs and let us know if you are interested or have any questions. Thank you so much for the consideration and for all that you do!

Snapple is a certified adorable 18 lb Pekingese mix looking for a foster home to help him blossom. He is a shy pup who came to us quite under-socialized and is looking for a comfy home to help show him that the world isn't so scary! He has lived with other dogs before, but would like to meet them first. He is new to things like leashes and will need a patient foster to give him the time and love to open up.

You better look out because this Raider is about to steal that heart of yours! He is a bouncy, wiggly, and fun young guy who's looking for an amazing family to give him the time of his life! He's the type of guy who likes his toys, snuggles, and people.
Raider is a great boy, but the shelter environment is very stressful for him. He is looking for a place to hang out while he waits for his furever home. Just make sure he is the only four legged friend in your home!

"Can you believe how cute I am? I know, I'm pretty darn adorable but why look at pictures when you can see the real thing in person!? I am a fun loving girl who is up for anything! I would love to go on walks everyday or just hanging out with you on the couch is fine with me! "
Sofie has been at the shelter for quite some time and could really use a break! She's looking for a place to hang out in while she waits for her furever family, but she has to be the one and only fuzzy gal in the home.

"I am a happy-go-lucky dog who is in need of a foster family! I would love to join in on all kinds of adventures such as going on a hike, camping, or letting me test out the waters at a lake! I would need to meet any potential doggy siblings at the shelter first. I may prefer to be your one and only; I'm not a big fan of sharing. If you're looking for a loyal companion and I sound like the one for you, please come meet me today!"
Illinois is one of our shelter long timers and could really use a break from shelter life! He needs a loving foster home to hang out in while he waits for his furever family.

"I love to spend my days going on walks, meeting new doggy friends, and relaxing with my people. Since I'm a bit older, that means that I already have experience being in a home and would be a great family dog! I'm well-behaved, loving, and wouldn't require too much work. I really am the complete package!"
Drake is an older gentleman who is not meant to be in a shelter environment. He would prefer to hang out in a home with loving people (and other dogs) while he waits for his furever family.

We are SHOCKED that Maya is still at the shelter! This 10-year-old Shepherd mix is one of the sweetest pups around. Maya is an easy-going dog who enjoys just hanging out. She loves to give kisses, sniff around on walks, and will happily lead you to the coolest flowers on your path.
Maya has been at the shelter for a long time, and she could absolutely use a foster home to give her a change of pace! Maya would LOVE to spend her time at your home (as long as you don't have any other pets).

If you have a friend or family member who you think would be interested in fostering, please have them fill out the foster application here, putting the animal's name under "goals." Just as a reminder, AAWL will provide all the supplies for their stay.
