Friends Looking for New Leadership

With all of the changes over the past few years, the Friends Board had decided that they could no longer be in charge of the group. Natalie Valenti is currently still serving as President as needed, and Rose D'Agostini is serving as Acting Treasurer, depositing checks as they come in and paying any fees that come up. If you feel moved to volunteer for the Board (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and/or Secretary), please contact Natalie at [email protected] and let her know that you're interested in stepping up to volunteer. The only way the group can continue is with new leadership who would like to start volunteering at library events, holding fundraisers, and promoting the group and BPL.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunity

Thursday, August 4 is the BPL Ice Cream Social, back in full force this year! Details can be found here. We would like to have some representation from the Friends of the Library, so we have set aside a table next to our give-away table that will have some information, sign-up forms, etc. We would love to have some actual Friends there to talk up the group, let people know what you do/did in past years, and look for new leadership. If you are available, please contact Beth Dover, the BPL Friends liaison, at [email protected] to volunteer. The event is 5:30-8:30p.m., and you can work the hours that work for you - we would just like to have some Friends there rather than staff representatives or an empty table.

Little Free Library -

New Location

On May 18, 2022 the Little Free Library was reinstalled in front of the Johnston Recreation Center (Bloomingdale Park District). The previous location was in Springfield Park, where the Little Free Library was being vandalized on a regular basis. Kelly Cusack (with BPL) repaired and repainted the library unit, and it was reinstalled and restocked with the Friends, BPL, and BPD all represented. BPL Staff will continue to stock the Little Free Library with family-friendly books until the Friends group is reestablished.

Book Donations &

Book Sales

BPL is once again taking book/DVD/CD donations. Through the Friends, BSN Book Resellers picks them up monthly and resells on Amazon.com and eBay. They pay the Friends monthly and checks are sent via BPL and given to your Treasurer. We've been doing this for over one year now, and the process is smooth and quick, with minimal work needed from either Friends or BPL staff.

We hope you found this update helpful. Again, if you are no longer associated with the Friends of the Bloomingdale Public Library, just click the unsubscribe link below and you'll be removed from this mailing list. Thank you!
