Holiday 2010 Newsletter

Thank you!

Friends of MADACC wishes you and your loved ones a warm and wonderful holiday season. The holidays are a special time - a time for hope, charity and a chance for a new "leash" on life. We want to thank everyone - staff, volunteers, and donors - for being so  generous with your time, talent and financial support this past year.

Through the tireless efforts of dedicated staff and volunteers, the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) offers a second chance to many animals. Staff and volunteers serve as a temporary family for thousands of animals in our community and work diligently to provide shelter, nourishing food, and expert medical care.

In 2010, over 2600 animals were placed into adoption programs and another 350 were directly adopted from MADACC. To accomplish this, MADACC worked with over 75 animal rescue organizations to place animals into adoption programs and utilized volunteers to spend time walking and socializing animals to keep them healthy and hopeful.

In recognition of our efforts this past year, a slideshow was created to feature some of the animals helped by MADACC and highlights from a few of our community outreach milestones. Click here to watch the slideshow.

With generous people like you in our community, we will be able to continue to improve the quality of life of Milwaukee County's neediest animals and ensure MADACC is a place of hope and second chances.

On behalf of the animals, we thank you for your continued compassion and support.

2011 Project Faith calendars now available

Calendars are now available for sale at MADACC for $12. You can also order them online for an additional $5 shipping and handling fee. Calendars make great holiday gifts and friends and family will appreciate that the cost of your gift will help local homeless animals. To encourage bulk orders, if you order five or more, you can purchase them for $10 each. Bulk orders can only be purchased directly at MADACC.

Proceeds raised from calendar sales will support Project Faith. Project Faith is inspired by an unclaimed stray dog at MADACC named Faith, who spent six weeks on MADACC's transfer list waiting to be accepted into an adoption program. MADACC staff and volunteers became very enamored with this dog and through networking and faith, she was adopted into a loving home. Faith put a penetrating face on the needless euthanasia of adoptable animals in Milwaukee County. MADACC's goal through Project Faith is to provide an outlet for the wonderful adoptable animals at MADACC that are not selected by other animal welfare agency adoption programs, but still deserve a second chance at life.

A special thank you to Jean Vitrano for being the driving force behind this calendar and to Shawna Marie Photography for donating her time and talent to produce the wonderful photos.

Purchase a holiday star for $1 to help MADACC animals!

Help fill the MADACC lobby with stars as a sign of support for Milwaukee County's neediest animals. Money raised will help fund projects including building outdoor exercise kennels, funding spay/neuter procedures, and educational programs. Stars can be purchased directly from the front desk staff in the MADACC lobby.

2nd Annual Rocakbilly for Rover a big success!

On Dec. 4, Friends of MADACC hosted our 2nd Annual Rockabilly for Rover show at the Bay View Brew Haus. Live music was provided by Texas 55 and Crazy Rocket Fuel. This event was a huge success and a good time was had by all. We raised over $4000 through donations at the door, raffle items and a silent auction!  We owe a big "thank you" to the many local businesses and individuals that donated items for the event.

Raise your paws in honor of Central Bark Menomonee Valley!

Central Bark Menomonee Valley (CBMV) in Milwaukee has been a great partner this past year, going above and beyond when it comes to helping MADACC find new homes for local dogs.  Jessica Hatch, one of the owners of CBMV, says "I have always been an animal lover, to a fault! Since adopting Beezer (a Shetland Sheepdog/Shtizu/Fox Terrier Mix) from the Wisconsin Humane Society four years ago, he has pretty much changed my life. I got a job as a dog handler at Central Bark, then bought the Central Bark, became very involved in animal rescue and have had the opportunity to foster dogs at CBMV and in my own home. "

CBMV has helped organize several adoption events at their doggie daycare facility including a Yappy Hour and Gallery Night in April, Shelter Stars Showcase Adoption Event in July, and most recently a Home for the Howl-Days Adoption Event in December. Their good deeds do not end there... CBMV's staff has also fostered dogs for us and offers our foster families free daycare!

Jess also says that "I feel that I have the perfect business to help dogs that need homes and since they do not have voices, I want to help them anyway possible. It seemed like a natural fit to work with MADACC because of the volunteer base. They work so hard to help the dogs (and cats) whether it be socialization and excercise/dog walking, volunteering for events, fundraising, and helping people find animals to join their families. I am so happy and honored to help with efforts when needed and hope that I can continue to partner with MADACC in the future."

Here are several dogs who have been helped this past year by CBMV:

(formerly known as Neela)

fostered by Central Bark Menomonee Valley and adopted June 2010

fostered by CBMV and adopted September 2010

(formerly known as Athena)

fostered by CBMV and adopted December 2010

(formerly known as Blue)
fostered by a CBMV employee and adopted October 2010
