President's Message
Dear Friends,
It's hard to believe that July is coming to a close and August is near. The summer is just flying by which is always a little bit sad but here at Friends of MADACC we have been enjoying some fantastic summer events. The 7th Annual Walk Run Wag happened on July 14th and it was our best and most successful Walk Run Wag yet! Despite the day beginning with rain showers, the sun peaked out at the start of the race and it ended up being a beautiful day. We enjoyed delicious food from BelAir Cantina, had wonderful vendors, fantastic volunteers, and so much fun. We owe this all to our sponsors and supporters. Thanks to each and every one of you who made this event possible. We cannot wait to go even bigger next year. In addition to Walk Run Wag, we hosted our second successful Community Pet Clinic in June where we gave over 100 cats and dogs their much-needed rabies and distemper vaccinations. We also spread the word about MADACC and Friends of MADACC at the UW-Milwaukee Pre-Veterinary Organization Adoption Fair, West Allis a la Carte, and the Pride Parade. And last, but certainly not least, we kicked off our Purrfect MKE and Pit Bull Proud campaigns, both of which run from June 1st through October 31st of each year. You can read more about Purrfect MKE and Pit Bull Proud below.

Sincerely,

Amila Rizvic

Purrfect MKE & Pit Bull Proud
Purrfect MKE started when Friends of MADACC realized that while our Pit Bull Proud campaign helped a lot of dogs, it REALLY helped a lot of cats. In 2017, FOM subsidized the adoption fees for 483 cats!

The felines of Milwaukee needed their own program and this is it. Each spring MADACC sees an influx of homeless cats in search of homes. To help reduce overcrowding in the shelter, Friends of MADACC waives adult cat adoption fees from June 1st – October 31st of each year.

In 2018, we revamped the program. Instead of subsidizing adoption fees, we will now provide our pit bulls with a welcome home kit to take home with them to their new family! The kit includes an easy walk harness, toys, and our new Pit Bull Proud sticker and bandanna. In addition to this, we run an awareness campaign from June to October to showcase our pit bull pride and raise awareness for these dogs. This campaign culminates with our Annual Pit Bull Awareness Day towards the end of October.

Animal Tails
Meet the New MADACC Veterinarian
Friends of MADACC is thrilled to introduce to you MADACC’s new vet, Dr. Johnson (and her dog, Freckles, who was adopted from MADACC). She has joined Dr. Gutting in caring for the stray and seized animals in Milwaukee County. She will also be helping us at upcoming animal wellness clinics! Funding for her position was given by the ASPCA Northern Tier initiative and by Friends of MADACC. You can read about some of the animals she has already helped below. Welcome to the family Dr. Johnson and, of course, Freckles, too!
Cat Corner
These are just a few of the lucky cats who have received special medical attention at MADACC since our last newsletter. The first kitty you see came to MADACC with her jaw fused shut. Because of this, she needed to be tube fed at MADACC until undergoing jaw surgery. Before coming to MADACC, t his sweet girl was unable to eat and was forced to press her face into the food in an attempt to nourish herself. Fabio could not even open his eyes before his surgery. Now we can see those gorgeous greens (when he's not sleeping of course)! Tara came into MADACC with a hole in her eye; something she very well may have been born with. MADACC removed her bad eye and she is eagerly awaiting her furever home. Irene needed an amputation because of a necrotic (dead) foot. Thanks to your donations, her surgery was possible. Finally, Watson came in with a severe wound on his limb and small bullet in his skin atop his back. Our wonderful vet staff at MADACC took great care of him!

Canine Column
Charles is an older fella that came into MADACC and needed an eye amputation. We were able to do this with support from people like you! He is all healed and is enjoying unlimited snuggles in his furever home. Andre is a gentle giant who was undergoing heartworm treatment while in foster care. Thanks to funds from Friends of MADACC, Andre received the care he needed and is currently looking for his furever home!
