Message from the Chair

Have you noticed the Friends of Overland Park Arts banner flying at some of the local events lately? Our board members have been trying to step up and step out into the community to make us more visible. We have been able to offer grants to several organizations to help bring more artistic venues for our citizens to enjoy. Did you attend the Overland Park Fall Festival this year? Maybe you saw all the fun children's activities and the large puppets? They were funded by Friends of Overland Park Arts. Did you attend the first annual Art Fair in downtown Overland Park this summer? We helped with funding for that. All those concerts in the park this summer? We helped with funding those, too. At Georgia's Chicken Run we were there doing temporary tattoos for the kiddos, big and small. Of course the favorite tattoo was of the chickens. We also help fund art and dance programs through some of our local schools with the Art Smart program through InterUrban ArtHouse.

What I am getting to is your membership, when you join the Friends of Overland Park Arts, help to fund these activities. Please consider renewing and asking your friends and neighbors to join, too. Attend one of our fundraisers, such as the Nutcracker Tea Party – an annual event that is so much fun.

Overland Park is one of the best cities in the country and part of that is the dedication to art in our city. We are proud to be able to help with funding for so many activities and we appreciate your support to do so.

If you would like to be more involved, we would love to have a few more board members. Just let me know and I would be happy to talk with you about what that entails and how you can be part of the fun!

OP Fall Festival Survey

October is National Arts & Humanities Month! NAHM encourages everyone to appreciate art and explore the diverse cultures around us. It is the largest celebration of arts and culture in the U.S., and we urge everyone to reflect on how art enriches our lives. No matter who you are or where you live, there are many ways you can celebrate the arts every October.

The Board of County Commissioners will be presenting the Arts Council of Johnson County with a proclamation recognizing October as National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM). Join us in celebrating and supporting arts, humanities, and creativity in Johnson County!
