5th Annual Holiday Basket Raffle
The 5th Annual Holiday Basket Raffle is in the works. This event grows every year and we are looking for donations to make 2016 our biggest yet. Please contribute a basket with a regular retail value of at least $50. It can include your own products or other fun items related to a specific theme. If you are unable to donate a complete basket, please consider donating a gift card for our gift card tree.
All baskets will be on display at the Rowley Public Library from November 19 to December 17. Baskets are due by November 15. Email or call 781-640-0006 for a basket entry form or more information. All money raised will go to fund programs at the Rowley Library like the Summer Reading Program, Rowley Reads, kids' yoga, author readings, the monthly book club and more!
NOTE: Because the baskets will be on display for 4 weeks, we cannot accept donations of alcohol, tobacco or perishable items.
Movie Madness
Wed., Oct. 19, 7:15 pm and Thurs., Oct. 20, 3 pm
Join us to see a great new release out just in time for the season!  This PG-13 movie features two paranormal researchers (Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy) who join forces with a nuclear engineer (Kate McKinnon) and a subway attendant (Leslie Jones) to fight off a slew of ghosts that have invaded New York City.  Fun for all!  Movie snacks will be provided.
Fall Coloring, Thursday, Oct. 27, 3-6 pm
Coloring isn't just for kids!  It can be good for adults, too, helping us to de-stress and also stimulating brain areas related to motor skills, the senses and creativity.  And it's fun!  Drop in Thursday, Oct., 27, from 3-6 pm - we'll have some fall-themed coloring pages to get you in the spirit of the season.
Cross stitch on exhibit during the month of October
Rowley local Joan Petersen will be displaying her work at the Rowley Public Library. Begun back in the 1970s to pass the time after the kids went to bed and her husband was at work as a state trooper, she's now doing counter cross stitching with no pattern to make a wide variety of items. Her display will include wedding and baby samplers, items for the home, seasonal decorations, and more. If you are interested in learning to cross stitch, let us know!
Ongoing programs for adults:
Weekly Hatha Yoga, Wednesdays 5:30 - 7 pm
Students will be guided through stretches, twists, balancing and strengthening postures and breathing and meditation techniques. All fitness levels are welcome, no registration required, just drop in to one or all. Bring a mat if you have one and wear comfortable clothes. Each class is $12 or $10 for Friends of the Rowley Library members.
Genealogy Club, Monday October 3*, 6-8 pm
*Special day, due to the Columbus Day Holiday falling on the 2nd Monday
Interested in researching your family history? Start with yourself! Feel free to join us from 6-8 PM on October 3 in the Local History Room for Genealogy Club, where like-minded researchers can make use of the Library's resources, share ideas, and make progress on family stories. No experience necessary. No expert on hand, but those who have been working on this for a while will help you get started. Databases (in library only) and Heritage Quest are available for use.
Rowley Library Book Club, Thursday November 3, 6:30 pm
This month we're reading Good omens : the nice and accurate prophecies of Agnes Nutter, witch by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, whose combined sense of humor is something to be enjoyed.  Armageddon is approaching, at least according to the predictions of Agnes Nutter, and she's been right so far. But there are some agents on both sides who don't want that to happen (because they like life on Earth,) and anyway the Antichrist has been misplaced. It's a fast-paced race to the end - or not. Pick up a copy at the Rowley Library or reserve one here, then join us for a discussion on Thursday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m. Our book group meets the first Thursday of each month, so check our web site for future titles.
