Adult Day Program.jpg

‘It feels like home.’

The Adult Day program offers care and a sense of belonging to elders and their families.

Maria Charbonneau spent her career as a licensed nursing assistant, often caring for the elderly. But that all changed several years ago when she broke her leg in a fall. It left her struggling to stay mobile, unable to work and in need of regular care herself.

“It can be hard living on my own,” says Maria, now a regular at the Home Health & Hospice’s Adult Day site in South Burlington. “But here at the program, it feels like home.”

Meet Maria and others finding support and joy at Adult Day.

A Labor of Love

Volunteer Spotlight

What keeps Mimi and Church Hindes coming back to volunteer at McClure Miller Respite House? Personal and professional experiences, and the knowledge that Respite House’s compassionate team provides residents and loved ones with peace of mind at profound points on their respective journeys.

“You see the individual,” Mimi says. “You focus on each person, rather than their circumstances. It’s like, ‘Oh, here we are today, in this moment, and how may I help you?’”

“With anything you love, you’re quietly doing it for yourself as much as you’re doing it for others; it’s good for your soul,” Church adds.

The Respite House Celebrates 5 Years in New Location

Every year, hundreds of Fun Runners gather to support McClure Miller Respite House and the hundreds of Vermonters spending their final days there. Alice Christian has participated in the Fun Run since 2011, raising more than $20,000 over the years. She knows first hand the value of Respite House care.

“There are people here who understand that you’re living your unique life and want to honor and support you in whatever you may need,” Alice explains. “It provides a safe haven for the family members as well as for the residents.”
