SEC Crew Assist with Power Restoration in North and South Carolina

Southside Electric Cooperative has once again demonstrated the cooperative spirit by sending a team of 23 lineworkers to North and South Carolina to help restore power after severe weather caused widespread outages.

Mutual aid is essential to how cooperatives support each other during challenging times. Our crews are working hard alongside local cooperatives to ensure that homes and businesses in affected areas can quickly regain power.

Join us in sending continued thoughts and prayers to our crews in their efforts and commitment to serving not only our members, but those in need beyond our borders.

First-Ever Virtual Annual Meeting A Success!

Thursday, September 19th, SEC held a successful first-ever virtual Annual Meeting. Thank you to those who joined us live for our first virtual annual meeting and to all who submitted questions to be addressed by your Cooperative leadership team. If you were unable to attend, you can catch all the important updates by viewing the recorded version below.

SEC Board Selects New Member

Tracy Gee of Lunenburg County has been named to the Southside Electric Cooperative Board of Directors, filling the seat of the recently deceased Dr. Earl C. Currin Jr.

Gee, a Cooperative member since 2007 and the county administrator in Lunenburg for the last 13 years, was interviewed and selected by the SEC board at its Sept. 19 meeting. She will complete Currin’s term, which runs through 2025, and then be eligible to run for a full three-year term.

Gee served on SEC’s previous Member Advocacy Committee and current Southside Advisory Council. Since 2016, she and Currin served together on the Southside Opportunity Fund Board of Directors, which has awarded 202 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in SEC’s service area.

Celebrate Co-op Month

By celebrating Co-op Month, members can take pride in being part of an organization that values community, transparency and their needs.

Cooperatives like SEC are deeply committed to serving the local community. Co-op Month is an opportunity to highlight the positive impact SEC has on the community, including supporting local organizations, fostering economic development and responding to natural disasters.

Community Connection

At Southside Electric Cooperative, we believe in the POWER of community. Cooperative Principle #7, Concern for Community, guides us to actively enhance the quality of life in our communities. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Backpacks of Love, Inc.!

With the help of SEC and other supporters, Backpacks of Love supports local children in need and helps end childhood hunger by providing weekend food for school-age children in Southside and Central Virginia, including SEC's very own Powhatan, Chesterfield, Buckingham, Amelia and Cumberland counties.

An A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a strong indicator of a company’s trustworthiness, transparency and commitment to resolving customer concerns.

Safety is a part of the foundation at Southside Electric Cooperative, both for our employees and members. Therefore, all offices are closed on Friday, October 25, for SEC's Annual All-Employee Safety Day.

SEC is proud to share that we have surpassed 730 days - two full years - without a lost-time incident. This remarkable milestone highlights our team's dedication to safety and reinforces our commitment to protecting our employees and our communities.
