Fruit of the Week:
Texas Peaches
The 2018 peach season in North Texas promises to be a record one due to just the right weather conditions! All of our produce vendors have peaches and Mayfield Farms out of Center, Texas has joined the market. They have tree ripened peaches and field tomatoes.
I wasn't much of peach fan growing up. But then, after moving to Texas and ultimately getting involved in the local food movement and farmers markets I tasted my first tree ripened Texas peaches. Love at first taste!

To quote Ellise Pierce in the Summer 2018 Edible Magazine, "Peaches are nature's reward for suffering through the Texas heat." They arrive at markets just when the temperatures are heating up and they peter out just when the mornings are starting to show a bit of coolness.

During years like this, the abundance of peaches sends even the best of cooks looking for new recipe ideas to use up the peaches. Canning and freezing are both options allowing you to enjoy peaches throughout the year. The Summer 2018 Edible Magazine (distributed FREE at the Rotary Booth at the FRFM market) has several sweet AND savory recipes for peaches.

Try out the recipe below. If you plan to bake or can in bulk, check with Mayfield Farms for bulk boxes of culled peaches (bruised or overripe) which are perfect for baking and canning. They're a bargain!
Frisco Rotary Farmers Grilled Peaches

4 medium peaches, cut in half (pit removed)
1/2 cup honey flavored fat free Greek yogurt
4 TBSP AP Apiaries honey
Cinammon to taste
Grilled peaches with yogurt, honey and cinamon are a great summer dessert.
Select firmer peaches for grilling. Place peach halves cut side down on the grill. Grill on low or indirect heat until soft, 2-4 minutes on each side. Combine yogurt and cinammon. Pour 1 TBSP yogurt over each peach half. Drizzle with honey.

The Cookie Crave
The Cookie Crave booth at The Frisco Rotary Farmers Market is well stocked with samples and cookies for sale!
Veronica Powell loves to bake cookies and develop exciting new recipes for cookies. She began experimenting with cookie baking out of frustration...she couldn't find any really good nut free desserts and her nut allergy prevented her from eating cookies with nuts.

For years her coworkers and family were the beneficiaries of her love of baking and cookies. It wasn't until she had her son Jayden that she gained the courage to launch a business around her love of baking and creating new recipes.
Jayden - The Inspiration for The Cookie Crave.
Jayden has the same nut allergy that Veronica has. All Cookie Crave cookies are nut free. When Jayden began suffering from additional digestive issues, Veronica learned that he also couldn't digest dairy or wheat. Veronica began experimenting with gluten/dairy/nut free recipes and developed a line of cookies that Jayden could eat. After all, little boys need cookies!

Cookies are baked fresh daily and Cookie Crave offers trays for events and delivers cookies to customers.
Veronica Powell offers samples of her cookies at The Frisco Rotary Farmers Market.
The Cookie Crave offers the following nut free cookies: OMG Oatmeal, Gooey Ginger Snaps, Sweet Sugar, Charming Choclate Chip, Captivating Cookies and Cream, Blissful Buttersotch, Tasty Toffee, Big Brownie, Brilliant Banana Cream (my granddaughter's favorite!), Blazin' Brown Sugar, Scrumptious Snickerdoodle, OYeah Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Sweet & Salty Crunch, Lovely Lemon, The Brookie Breakfast Cookie (my favorite!), and Strawberry Cunch Berries.

The Cookie Crave offers the following gluten/dairy/nut free cookies: Sweet Snickerdoodle, Lush Lemon Cookies, Super Sugar Cookies, Great Ginger Snap Cookies and Strawberry Crunch Berries.
Sweet and Salty Crunch Cookie is a favorite with its sweet and savory combo of chocolate, caramel, toffee and pretzels all topped with sea salt. Another favorite: The Brookie Breakfast Cookie which includes the flavor of pancakes, maple syrup and bacon.
The Cookie Crave is at The Frisco Rotary Farmers Market every other week so stock up when you see their booth! The Cookie Crave will be at the market this Saturday, June 9.
