FRAMEABLE MOMENTS WITH LARRY CHEN
"Part of what we like to do as official photographers is capture the beauty of the mountain itself. While the cars are incredible, for me the ultimate goal is to show off both the scenery and background as well as the racing vehicle. Sometimes this means I need to shoot the photos vertically. This particular location is one of my favorites in the W's because you can see some nice foreground as well as Double Cut in the distance." Larry Chen

Pictured:. Rhys Millen taking a turn in the W's during a 2022 morning practice session. Millen captured the Pikes Peak Open win behind the wheel of this 2016 E-Motion Porsche GT3R TT in 10:52.664.

PIKES PEAK 101
In 1916 the first car division to run on Pikes Peak was the Open Wheel division, and it’s still going strong today!

The “Romano Special” driven by Rae Lentz was the winner of the inaugural three-day event. His finish time was 20 minutes, 55.60 seconds. Roll forward to 2022 when Codie Vahsholtz won the division in his 2013 Ford Open in 10:38.259. Interestingly, Codie’s father, Clint, holds the Open Wheel division record, set in the same car in 2020 when he captured the overall King of the Mountain win in 09:35.490. More than 100 years, 12.42 miles in half the time!

The history of Porsche at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb is undoubtedly impressive. The first one to tackle the 12.42 mile course was a slightly modified Porsche 356A in 1958 driven by Bill Paine. Congratulations to Porsche on your 75th Anniversary!
