From 4Cs
March 2021
A Note From Our Executive Director
Dear friend of 4Cs,

It is hard to believe that just over a year ago Alameda County schools and businesses closed their doors and had to quickly pivot into a new way of serving the community. Here at 4Cs of Alameda County, while our offices closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our work never stopped. Parents - especially those who were essential workers - still needed care for their children and help paying for that care. Child care providers who remained open needed our support more than ever with PPE, guidance, trainings, and health and safety supplies. And families, thousands of families, were still reaching out to us for assistance and help with child care, emergency bill pay, diapers, and other essentials so their families and children could thrive.
It is difficult for me to put into words how proud I am of our staff for not skipping a beat in serving our community in the midst of a pandemic and growth of our child care payment assistance and family and provider resource programs. The phone calls, emails, questions, and requests from child care providers and parents never paused and neither did the work of every single team member at 4Cs of Alameda County. Even while juggling their own family's needs and obligations, everyone from our Specialists to our leadership team continued (and still continue) to work day after day to serve our incredible community.
Throughout the past 372 days (and counting), 4Cs of Alameda County has been honored to serve our neighbors, families, and child care providers. We are grateful for your patience and support. We recognize that, even in the midst of a pandemic, many of you have donated your time, diapers, essential supplies, and money to help us reach and serve even more families and child care providers, and for that we are thankful.
Thank you for your partnership, thank you to our staff for their unwavering service, and thank you to our wonderful clients who never cease to amaze me in their persistence, perseverance, and determination.
Here's to a new year where, hopefully soon, our offices can physically open again and we see you all in person. In the meantime, stay safe, stay healthy, and contact us if you need anything - we are here (virtually) to support you.

Be well,

Renee S. Herzfeld
Executive Director

Updated Child Care Cohort Guidance from CDPH
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updated the Cohort guidance language recently to only apply the Guidance to those whose counties are in the Purple Tier. Child care providers located in counties yellow, orange, or red risk levels may follow existing licensing or exemption standards regarding group size, unless a stricter policy is in place for the county. Alameda County Public Health Department will be aligning with the state and will not implement a stricter policy.

Alameda County is currently in the Red Tier, which means child care programs and other indoor supervised youth settings, including summer day camps, distance learning hubs, recreation programs, youth groups, and before-and-after school programs do not need to follow the CPHD cohort guidance. However, these programs should continue to follow the CDPHD industry guidance specific to their sector (see below) and any child care licensing group size and ratio requirements.
