November, 2019 - In This Issue:
From the Desk of Our Executive Director

Dear 4Cs Community,

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and, as I look back on this past year, I cannot be more thankful for the support that 4Cs of Alameda County receives from our donors, community partners, and clients. Our Vision Statement reads that "By 2020, the Community Child Care Council (4Cs) of Alameda County will be known for providing innovative, comprehensive programs and leading community collaborations that empower all families to thrive." Your support has empowered us to strengthen our core programs and develop services and programs to serve the entire community (you can read our 2019 Impact Report to see all that we've accomplished this year). Thank you for helping our vision coming to fruition.
As the year winds down, we have another opportunity for you to support 4Cs of Alameda County. #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving, is December 3rd and I invite you to participate in one of the following ways:
*The first $7 million donated via these Facebook platforms to nonprofits worldwide beginning at 5am PST on December 3rd will be matched by Facebook.

Thank you in advance for joining me on #GivingTuesday and helping our Alameda County families thrive!

With gratitude,

Renee S. Herzfeld
Executive Director
4Cs Now Offering Free Car Seat Inspections
Call or Email for Appointment
Making sure that our children are safe is a top priority for parents and caregivers alike. If you transport little (and not so little) ones, you know how important car and booster seat safety is, but did you know that more than 90% of car seats are installed incorrectly? 4Cs of Alameda County is proud to now offer car seat installation checks for free at our main Hayward offices. Seat checks are available from 9:30am-3pm Monday through Friday. You can view information about this new program here. Please contact 4Cs' Child Passenger Safety Technician, Katie, at [email protected] or 510.584.3130 to book an appointment.

12 Month Immediate and Continuous Child Care for CalWORKs Stage 1
A Positive Change for CalWORKs Stage 1 Participants

We are very excited to share that effective 10/1/19 the
new rules for 12 months immediate and continuous care are finally here for our  CalWORKs  Stage 1 Child Care Payment Program. We appreciate Alameda County Social Services for allowing us this opportunity as a community partner to make accessing  child care  easier for families and in making California better. We have been working together to streamline the processes  for families who need  child care  services and are currently receiving Cash Aid.

What has changed? When families apply for Cash Aid and they are approved they will automatically  be  eligible  for 12 months immediate and continuous care with the intent to  participate  in a Welfare to Work Plan. They do not have to have a need/ Welfare  to Work Plan prior to coming to 4Cs to sign up for  child care . The child(ren) can remain in care for a year without having to stop and start care based on the parents need/Welfare  to  Work Plan.  For  existing  clients on our program, upon  recertification , you will be merged into the new process.

If you are currently receiving cash aid, or have received aid within the past 24 months, and you are ready to provide your child with a stable learning environment and get started on your goals, please contact 4Cs Stage 1 Main Office at (510) 584-3101 or find more information on our website at www.4calameda.org.

2020 Census Around the Corner
Census Hiring Enumerators

2020 will be an important year. Census 2020 brings federal funding to our schools, roads, and housing.
4Cs of Alameda County, in partnership with Alameda County, is working to ensure that we fully count
our community. Nearly 26% of Alameda County residents are considered "Hard-to-Count" and face
barriers to Census completion. Sadly, children 0-5 have often been undercounted. Every month, 4Cs newsletter will help answer questions about the upcoming census. If you have a question, send us an email at [email protected] and we'll do our best to feature it in an upcoming newsletter.

Is the Census hiring Census Takers if the Census is all online this year?
Yes! The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring now for the 2020 Census. Census Takers (Enumerators) will start work in the Spring, and the position is temporary, flexible, and pays $25 per hour in Alameda County. These positions provide the perfect opportunity to earn some extra income while helping your community!
What do Census Takers (Enumerators) do? They visit households who have not responded to the Census and help them complete the form. Learn more by watching this video: https://youtu.be/ewzb_xKIi9E The Census gives us data about our community, informs the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funding, and determines the number of decision-makers representing us. Alameda County gets billions of dollars from the federal government for essential services -- healthcare, school programs, housing, transportation, social services and more -- based solely on the census count. An undercount means fewer resources for everyone - for every person not counted, our community loses $10,000 over the next 10 years.
Am I eligible to be an enumerator?
To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, you must:
* Be at least 18 years old.
* Have a valid Social Security number.
* Be a U.S. citizen.
* Have a valid email address.
* Complete an application and answer assessment questions. (Some assessment questions
are available in Spanish. However, an English proficiency test may also be required.)
* Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption, if you are a
male born after Dec. 31, 1959.
* Pass a Census Bureau-performed criminal background check and a review of criminal
records, including fingerprinting.
* Be available to work flexible hours, which can include days, evenings, and/or weekends.
This is your chance to play a part in history and help ensure that everyone in our community is counted.

To apply, go to 2020census.gov/jobs.
Volunteer Opportunity
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Seeking Volunteers

2019 VITA Volunteers
Do you like helping people? Do you enjoy serving your community? Then the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program may be just what you are looking for. VITA is a program that involves volunteers from many walks of life to help taxpayers who cannot afford professional tax assistance. For over 16  years, 4Cs' VITA program has helped low-income families prepare and file  Federal and State  taxes  for free . VITA volunteers prepare income tax returns and provide information and referral to programs and services available at 4Cs.

There are many volunteer opportunities with VITA, even if you are not interested in preparing taxes. We need tax preparers, greeters, and translators (we are especially looking for volunteers who are fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, Punjabi, Farsi and American Sign Language). Volunteers must attend training sessions and devote 3-5 hours per week from January 30, 2020 to April 15, 2020. Opportunities are available in Hayward. If you are interested in learning more about VITA volunteer opportunities, please contact Joni Chantigian, VITA Site Coordinator at (510) 690-2150 or [email protected] or go to Earn It Keep It Save It Volunteer link:
