Last night was our Maundy (Mandate) Thursday dinner at which Jesus announced his impending death. While the news was ominious and surprising, we commemorated the event with fellowship, readings, choir, piano, and cello. Those who attended were delighted. We found delight in times of ancient and current tragedy.
Today is Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. Tomorrow is Holy Saturday when Jesus was "dead and gone" and his followers were deep in confusion and grief. And then Sunday is our celebration of the resurrection! Hope was resurrected from hope lost. Light was resurrected from darkness. Faith was resurrected from doubt.
On Easter Sunday, we will be blessed with high school students and church members, Marisa Carey and Anna LaGrandier singing a duet on "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee." We will hear an Easter poem recited with the accompaniment of Craig Coyle on piano. The choir has prepared a lovely anthem. Steven Henry will be our guest trumpeter. If you can and are willing, bring a treat for the refreshment table. Easter (not Christmas) is the highest holiday in the liturgical calendar of Christianity. By the way, the mandate Jesus declared at the Last Supper was to love God and love each other. Join us in a joyous expression of our faith.
Happy Easter!
