FEBRUARY 1, 2026

King School in Stamford recently welcomed a group of JFS youth clients for a series of creative afternoons as part of the Home Through Art project, an initiative designed to help students explore and express what “home” means to them through painting.

The sessions were made possible through the support of King School staff members Lindsey Rossler, Karen Raidt, Brady Shoemaker, Ran LaPolla, Corina Alvarezdelugo, and Garrett Mendez, along with dedicated King student volunteers who helped create a warm and encouraging environment.

Throughout the program, the young participants created artwork that reflected their personal stories and experiences. After each session, the group shared snacks and wrapped up the day with an energetic game of soccer, building connection and confidence alongside creativity.

The project culminated in a special celebration for students and their families. Guests enjoyed a performance by Project Music, with pizza generously provided by King School. The students’ artwork was proudly displayed, offering families a powerful and joyful opportunity to see their children’s creativity honored in a community setting.

JFS is deeply grateful to King School for their thoughtful partnership and for creating such a welcoming space where youth could express themselves, build community, and experience the arts as a positive outlet for growth and healing.

Tania Priatka from JFS was proud to support students at Stillmeadow Elementary School by delivering 25 new winter coats, along with hats and gloves, to the school’s Winter Community Closet as part of our work in the Stamford Public Schools district. This delivery was made in support of Stillmeadow’s #NoColdKid Initiative, which helps ensure students have the warm essentials they need to stay comfortable and focused throughout the winter.

As one of Stillmeadow’s key community partners, JFS offers ongoing support and collaboration throughout the year, working alongside the school to help meet the needs of students and their families.

Beth Jabick and Daniela Valdovinos recently represented JFS at River House Adult Day Center’s Night of Holiday Cheer. The lively event featured great food, jazz music, and meaningful community connection.

As long‑standing partners in supporting older adults, JFS and River House share a deep commitment to helping seniors thrive safely and independently at home. At JFS, this commitment comes to life through a continuum of older‑adult services, including Behavioral Health support, our Supermarketing for Seniors grocery shopping assistance program, and Compassionate Companions, which provides volunteer support and accompaniment to non‑emergency medical appointments.

We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the work of River House and strengthen this ongoing partnership.

JFS Attends GNACC Legislative Breakfast to Support Community Advocacy

JFS was proud to be represented by Beth Jabick at the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce (GNACC) Legislative Breakfast, an event that brings community leaders, business owners, and local organizations together for meaningful dialogue with state legislators.

We extend a special thank you to State Senator Cathy Osten for her continued leadership and advocacy on behalf of the communities throughout Eastern Connecticut. Her partnership and commitment to addressing local needs, especially in areas affecting vulnerable residents, remain invaluable.

JFS looks forward to continuing to collaborate with GNACC and our elected officials to strengthen resources, expand access to services, and support the well‑being of the Norwich area and beyond.

Followed by light bagel and schmear lunch.
