When Simon Siantumbula joined Wayi Wayi Boys Club in 2018, his remarkable artistic talent shone brightly despite financial hardships and familial skepticism. Guided by Mentor Kangwa Yombwe, Simon honed his skills, participating in a local young artist competition. Though he didn't win, his art caught the eye of renowned feminist Sara Longwe and her husband, columnist Roy Clarke, leading to Simon’s work being featured on the cover of their new book, The Process of Women’s Empowerment. This milestone underscores our mission to educate and empower boys for girls, and it fills us with immense pride.

Raising Awareness to Foster a #PeriodFriendlyWorld on Menstrual Hygiene Day | Did you know that one in 10 girls in developing countries misses school during her period because she doesn't have access to sanitary products? On May 28, GSGC-supported clubs united to celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day, promoting awareness and education on menstrual health. iTHUBA Alumni Club in Victoria Falls facilitated an open dialogue with students at a local school, Oasis Academy, breaking myths and cultural beliefs with the help of a healthcare professional. Project Luangwa Clubs highlighted the global challenges of menstrual hygiene, advocating for accessible products to keep more girls in school. From Livingstone to Dete, our clubs — including Sungomukoshi, Friends of Change, Tikobane, Believe Girls Club, Girls Time Club and Kuchengetedza Boys Club — engaged their communities for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld. |

Celebrating Gloria's Scholarship Journey: A Mother's Gratitude | |

Mentors Racheal Musonda Ng'andu and Gloria Mubita were greatly encouraged recently after conducting a home visit with the mother of Gloria, an alumna of Believe Girls Club in Livingstone, Zambia, who shared her appreciation:
"My heart is overflowing with gratitude to GSGC for the scholarship that made my daughter Gloria's university dreams come true. As my last born, Gloria was my last hope, and watching her grow and transform over the past six years in the club has been a blessing. The positive impact on her and her sisters is undeniable. I only wish I had had a mentor like that when I was growing up."
Thanks to the exciting new program in partnership with the Maria Manetti Scholarship Fund, Gloria is now attending Mulugushi University in Zambia, studying a BSc in Biomedical Science.

Through their words, melodies, and drawings, club members share their challenges and strengths, hopes and fears, and potential for a brighter future in GSGC’s annual Creative Expressions Contest. Each original work tells a unique story of what it means to be a youth in today’s Southern Africa.
Over the years, we've seen beautiful, insightful, empowering pieces, and we are anticipating more great work this year! Club members are busy working on their entries, getting ready to submit them in July. Mark your calendar: public voting opens in August.
