   Who We Are
   What We Do
   How To Help

This past October, you stood united with My Sister’s Place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). This year, our focus was on raising awareness, and the community response was nothing short of inspiring.

From our annual “Paint the Town Purple” event at Columbia Heights metro station, to the solidarity at The Madison’s Fall Fête gala, and to the digital DVAM art campaign from Accenture employees, you helped us raise support and awareness for survivors of domestic violence.

We are also so grateful to everyone who came out to paint a community mural with messages of hope at American University, and we are still celebrating the AXO Kickoff Soccer Tournament that raised an astounding $15,000 this DVAM.

Addressing domestic violence is a community effort, and we can’t thank you enough for doing your part to stand with us against domestic violence this DVAM.

Sponsor a Family

With your support, we’ve raised just over $21,000 during DVAM to support families this upcoming holiday season. We're determined to reach our $25,000 goal by November 15th.

Your contribution today ensures parents can experience the joy of choosing gifts for their own children and celebrate the holidays in a way that’s meaningful to their families. Will you consider a gift to sponsor a family today?

A Special Thanks to Amerigroup DC

A heartfelt thanks to Amerigroup DC for their generous contribution of $55,000 this DVAM. Amerigroup DC’s gift supported the opening of our new administrative office, as well as education and employment opportunities for survivors of domestic violence through MSP’s Fresh Start Fund. Amerigroup DC’s generosity paves the way for new beginnings for our clients.

MSP’s Fresh Start Fund provides our clients with financial support for emergency expenses that may destabilize their ability to remain safely housed, and for eligible educational and employment training expenses that support their path to self-sufficiency. Since the fund's inception 3 years ago, we have fulfilled nearly 1500 requests totaling over $725,000.

Recent requests have included:

  • Covering outstanding tuition for one of our clients at the University of Maryland
  • Supporting a client in completing her paralegal certificate program
  • Covering the cost for a client’s VA Real Estate Exam

Thank you to Amerigroup DC and all our supporters for empowering survivors of domestic violence. We look forward to a new fiscal year working to end domestic violence together.
