Friends,

It is a joy to announce that the people of Christ Church Cathedral have called the Reverend José Reyes to serve as the next dean. I am grateful to the Rev. Bernie Poppe for a transformative interim ministry which prepared the way for a successful search. José will be the eighth dean of Christ Church which became our cathedral in 1929. His first Sunday will be March 23rd.

This call is a spiritual homecoming. Jose's vocation took root at Christ Church Cathedral. After receiving a BA in Psychology, with a concentration in Latino Studies, from Williams College, Jose went on to study at Virginia Theological Seminary. He was nominated by the faculty there to represent VTS at the 2014 Preaching Excellence Program of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation. He was awarded the M.Div. degree in 2015.

As deacon he was made associate rector at All Saints, Worcester where he was ordained priest on September 12, 2015. I appointed José to served our diocese as Missioner for Latino/Hispanic Ministries in 2017. He became priest-in-charge of St. Mark's/San Marcos, a bilingual Episcopal faith community in Worcester's Main South neighborhood, on January 1, 2023. This call begins transition for this vibrant community which has flourished with his leadership.

Married to the Reverend Mary Rosendale, rector of St. Stephen's, Westborough, and priest-in-charge of St. Paul's, Hopkinton, they are parents of two children. They live with their family in Westborough.

It has been a journey to this day for Christ Church Cathedral. I am grateful for their faithfulness and for Canon Wilco's immediate attention to filling this critical role. Everything in José's ministry has prepared him for this new challenge. Under his leadership, the next chapter of mission in Springfield will, no doubt, be filled with joy!

The Rt. Rev. Douglas J. Fisher
