Oumaima Bouselmi
Tunisia
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
What was your major, and why did you choose it?
I majored in Nursing, and I will soon be a RN, BSN working in the Emergency Department. Emergency medicine has always felt like the place where my heart and strengths meet: fast-paced, meaningful, and centered on helping people in their most vulnerable moments. I also completed a minor in Psychology, which shaped the way I communicate, understand patients, and support them emotionally during stressful situations.
What does graduating mean to you and your family?
Graduating represents a huge milestone of resilience. My nursing journey has been long, intense, and full of moments that pushed me far outside my comfort zone. At times, it even felt like I had to learn a fifth language (medical terminology!). Even though I’m here without my family, I was never alone. My friends, mentors, classmates, and the Delta State community became my support system. This degree means everything because it reflects the challenges I overcame and the future I’m stepping into with confidence.
In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?
Delta State shaped me into someone who is stronger, braver, and more sure of my calling. I grew from a student who wanted to help into a clinician who knows how to lead, assess, advocate, and think critically under pressure. I found my voice, my confidence, and my purpose. I learned how to stand tall through setbacks, how to ask for help, and how to keep going when the journey felt overwhelming.

What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?
My favorite memories are the simple ones that meant the most: studying with friends until everything finally clicked, laughing between classes, participating in SNA events, and moments when faculty and staff checked on me and reminded me that I wasn’t doing this alone. Those everyday connections made Delta State feel like home.
What song will always remind you of this time in your life?
“Those Were the Days” by Mary Hopkin. It captures the nostalgia, growth, and unforgettable memories of this chapter of my life.
What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?
I’m beginning my career as a BSN-prepared Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, where I can put everything I’ve learned into action. My plan is to keep advancing my practice, grow in emergency medicine, and eventually pursue higher levels of education in the field. I’m excited to continue learning, serving my community, and building the career I’ve always dreamed of.
