The Shift in Focus: From DEIJ to “Merit” and “Fairness”
Under the Trump administration, the focus on DEIJ initiatives in schools has shifted dramatically for the better. Thankfully, President Trump effectively blocked certain federal agencies from promoting DEIJ efforts, citing that they were divisive or infringed upon the notions of meritocracy and fairness. This shift is causing much angst among schools and teachers trained to see DEIJ initiatives as essential to fostering an “inclusive” educational environment that reflects the diversity of their students.
In a world where diversity equals conformity, equity is unfair, and inclusion means exclusion, Trump’s elimination of DEIJ is a saving grace for the future of our schools. Teacher's unions are unhappy, as they have consistently championed policies that claim to promote inclusivity, anti-racism, and social justice in education, but instead produce the strife of racism and eliminate any honest justice. If these groups are upset, it's a clear indication that Trump has made the right move.
In response to President Trump’s actions, unions could become even more active in advocating for the preservation and expansion of DEIJ initiatives at the local level. Now is the time to be alert to any pushback, promote the speedy and thorough elimination of DEIJ, and replace it with truth.
Parents, keep a sharp eye out for clear violations of Trump's order, or interference from woke administrators. Prior to this order, parents' hands were tied. Now there is some teeth behind the efforts to excise wokeism from our schools and our children's curriculums. Be ready--the opposition won't go down without a fight. We have the federal government on the side of common sense, and it wields a very big stick. Don't hesitate to use it!
Truth in Education is in the fight to keep parents informed on these crucial changes coming to a school near you. Stay tuned!
