A Bright Future for DCMH

As we press forward from 2020 and look for new beginnings and a fresh start in 2021, it is imperative that we learn from the past and set goals for the future. DCMH is not much different in this aspect. I am excited to let the community know what our hospital is doing to inspire hope by providing remarkable care in a healing environment.

For many of us, 2020 was a difficult period in time. We were dealt a hard-hitting pandemic that will forever change how we think about the way we treat our patients, families and communities. I am pleased to say that our local healthcare heroes rose to the occasion and made huge sacrifices for our patients. They worked long hours in tough circumstances without complaining. Our healthcare heroes are the beating heart of DCMH, and they will forever be remembered for the sacrifices that were made. If you know one of these heroes, I encourage you to let them know how proud you are of the care that was given in our hospital and clinics.

2021 brings a new sense of hope. The vaccine for COVID-19 has made its way to Delta County and we are once again broadening our focus on efforts to get as many Delta County residents vaccinated as vaccines are available. This is a huge turning point for our country, state and county, putting us one step closer to resuming familiar functions of past years. We need not let up on our efforts to wear masks, social distance and use good hand hygiene. Working together is the best way to help mitigate the spread of the disease.

For DCMH, 2021 also brings a new focus; as of October 2020, a new mission, vision, and values statements were implemented. Our new mission is set to inspire hope by providing remarkable care in a healing environment. Our vision is to provide compassionate quality healthcare that out community will trust. While our values are encompassed in the acronym INSPIRE: Integrity, Nurture, Stewardship, Professionalism, Innovative, Respect, and Empathy.

By also developing a three-year strategic plan, we aspire to achieve several lofty goals. First, we are going to be focusing on obtaining a Medicare 5-star rating. Only 7% of hospitals across the nation carry this designation, and our community hospital is striving to be amongst the most elite hospitals for patient experience, timeliness of care, the safety of care and effectiveness of care. We will now be participating in the LeapFrog program and are focusing on obtaining a “Leapfrog Grade A” for patient safety; joining the ranks of 30% of nationwide hospitals that boast this coveted score.

Lastly, 2021 will be a time of continued service line growth and the addition of specialized physicians to our community. Our goal is to provide as many services as we can locally so that our patients can receive care that is close to home. With that being said, we are focusing on growing a local cardiology program, urology, ENT and oncology to name a few--there is a huge need in our community for these services.

In closing, I am proud to be the leader of our community healthcare system and feel blessed to have this opportunity. I greatly appreciate the communities we serve and look forward to a bright future for DCMH. We have a lot to be proud of and I look forward to the opportunity to serve each and every one of you.

In good health,
Delta County Memorial Hospital's mission is to inspire hope in a healing environment by providing remarkable care. Our vision is to provide compassionate, quality healthcare that our community will trust.
