What is your personal/professional story?

Breaking boundaries isn’t just a mantra—it’s a mission that has shaped my life’s work. Growing up in East Orange, New Jersey, I witnessed firsthand the duality of a community abundant in love yet deeply burdened by poverty, high crime rates, educational barriers, and limited economic opportunities. Housing instability was a constant; by the age of 18, I had moved over 18 times. While I couldn’t fully comprehend the depth of those struggles as a child, I carried a persistent, unshakable belief that we deserved better—that our stories were worth rewriting.

This belief sparked a 20-year journey, one driven by a relentless desire to understand and transform the conditions that shaped my community and countless others like it. Along the way, I had the honor of working with some of the most impactful organizations in the U.S., including Teach For America, YES Prep, KIPP Texas, and OneGoal. Each step deepened my commitment to social justice and my resolve to create systems that co-power with individuals and communities to thrive.

Today, as the founder and CEO of BreakingBounds®, an executive coaching and strategy consulting firm, I am proud to lead an organization dedicated to co-powering with business leaders to break their own boundaries and drive positive social change. We work with amazing leaders who are evolving their organizations into engines of opportunity. Together, we’re not just imagining a better tomorrow—we’re building it.

What key moments in your life led you to where you are today?

"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." – Mark Twain

I’ve been fortunate to discover my "why" multiple times throughout my life. One of the most defining moments came when I was teaching 4th-grade reading and writing as a Teach For America corps member. My students reflected parts of my own journey—brilliance, kindness, resilience, and at times, challenges rooted in circumstances beyond their control. Most of them lived at or below the poverty line, where the odds were often stacked against them, threatening to limit their potential and life outcomes.

And yet, in that classroom, I witnessed incredible breakthroughs that transformed both my students and me. One moment, in particular, stands out. A student who had been reading at a 2nd-grade level came to tutoring sessions before school and during lunch for months. Progress was slow, and frustration often clouded our efforts. Then one day, it happened—this student read a 4th-grade paragraph flawlessly, without missing a single word.

We both jumped up and down in celebration, tears streaming down our faces. As the student quietly said, “I can do this… I can do this,” under their breath, I lifted their head and affirmed them, “Yes, you can. You always could.”

In that moment, two truths crystallized for me:

  1. Given the right tools and support, people are capable of extraordinary things.
  2. I was called to help create the conditions that enable people to unlock their potential and thrive.

This realization has guided me ever since. Today, through BreakingBounds, I work to empower leaders and their organizations to achieve the goals they carry in their hearts and minds. Just as I told my student that day, I remind them, “Yes, you can. You always could.”

It’s moments like these that continue to fuel my passion to create change and help others realize what’s possible.

Where does your passion to serve come from?

For generations, my family has shown up to support the social good, pouring their energy into causes like advancing educational equity, public health awareness, and economic mobility through entrepreneurship. I vividly remember my mom taking me to her Ujima meetings as a child. At the time, I dreaded it—I was just 8, and to me, it seemed like a dull gathering of women sitting in a circle, talking, praying, and passionately raising their hands. But those moments, set in a small church room filled with determination and hope, left an indelible mark on me.

Ujima means "collective work and responsibility," and through those meetings, I witnessed its true power—a community working together to confront challenges, seize opportunities, and build a better future. Those women weren’t just talking; they were building, leading, and lifting others up. What seemed ordinary then taught me an extraordinary lesson: community is at the heart of meaningful change.

It’s no wonder that today, I own and lead BreakingBounds®, a company that carries this legacy forward. We strive to do for leaders and their companies what those women did for their community: foster growth, expand possibilities, and create impact. Through partnerships with leaders who represent companies like Microsoft, Camelback Ventures, 8 Million Stories, or organizations like The United Way of Greater Houston, and Arnold Ventures, we’ve had the privilege of amplifying the work of incredible leaders who are driving positive change.

The passion to serve isn’t something I discovered—it’s something that’s always been within me, shaped by the collective efforts of those who came before me. And now, it’s my turn to pass it on—to support, inspire, and co-power with others to build a better tomorrow. Because when we work together, we don't just break boundaries—we redefine what’s possible.
