On Thursday, the Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling on immigration. Mullin v. Doe. The Court permitted the Trump administration to unilaterally revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian nationals. The decision affects at least 350,000 individuals, placing them at risk of losing their jobs and facing deportation.

“TPS was established as a humanitarian safeguard for individuals unable to safely return to their home countries due to instability and other dangerous conditions. This ruling allows the administration to summarily remove these protections without resort to legal process,” said Christopher Kelley, Director of Immigration Legal Services. “TPS beneficiaries entered the U.S. legally, and have followed our processes, been vetted, and only received benefits after proving their eligibility under existing U.S. law. Despite evidence in the court record suggesting discriminatory and racially motivated targeting of specific immigrant communities, the majority declined to accept those allegations. The ruling, in effect, turns "legal" immigrants into “illegal immigrants" by invalidating the documentation they obtained through legal process.

As this ruling takes effect, JFS will continue to offer trusted legal guidance, helping our immigrant clients navigate an increasingly complex landscape with dignity.

As Greenwich commemorates America’s 250th anniversary, a yearlong celebration of community, history, and shared values, JFS is proud to continue one of the most important traditions: caring for our neighbors.

Through our ongoing food assistance efforts, we provide essential nourishment to individuals and families across our community each week. These special Greenwich 250 food bags represent a continued commitment to ensuring that no one faces food insecurity alone.

As we reflect on 250 years of shared history, we are reminded that strong communities are built through compassion, connection, and action.

On June 20, we recognized World Refugee Day, a time to honor the strength and resilience of those rebuilding their lives in new communities.

At JFS, we are continually inspired by the courage of those we serve. One client shared his family’s journey with deep gratitude, noting the importance of being welcomed with “respect, kindness, and humanity” and finding hope through available support. As he wrote, “We truly do not have enough words to express our gratitude… You are a blessing to many.

That spirit was also evident at our Norwich office (pictured), where we hosted a workshop with Dr. Gizelle Tircuit of Magnolia Wellness on overcoming trauma and building resilience. Refugee clients attended to learn coping strategies and connect with behavioral health resources.

These moments reflect how compassionate support helps individuals and families move forward with hope.

Before connecting with JFS, this client struggled with self-doubt and often relied on others for validation. Encouraged by a friend, they recognized they were “going in a spiral” and decided to try therapy.

At first, opening up felt uncomfortable, but with consistent support, they began to engage more fully. Over time, therapy helped them build self-awareness, strengthen communication skills, and put complex thoughts into words. Instead of bottling things up, they now leave sessions feeling “lighter.”

Today, they approach life with greater confidence and are no longer afraid to have difficult conversations. Their outlook can be summed up in one word: “Optimistic.”

Their message to others: “You are not alone. With support and belief in yourself, it is possible to overcome any challenge, just take it one step at a time.”
