Long-term care enhancements bring beauty and function

What if… instead of drab hospital walls, your long-term care home was bursting with colour and lively imagery meant to stimulate the senses?

Residents at both the Gorge Road Health Centre and The Summit in Victoria, BC have seen this come to life recently with the installation of new wall murals and door vinyls that have transformed the long-term care units into something magical. Funded by Eldercare Foundation donors, the murals bring personality and flair to hallways and common spaces, with images depicting nature scenes, bookshelves, window views and so much more.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30 is recognized across Canada as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. On this day, settlers, newcomers and Indigenous people in Canada are called to a deeper understanding of this country’s history with Indigenous people and the long-lasting effects of the residential school system.

Are you social media-savvy? What seniors need to know

Older adults are increasingly using all kinds of tech, but with the adoption of digital tools comes more opportunities to fall prey to scams and fraud.

As a trusted consultant and technology teacher, Dave Basset, also known as “Compu Dave,” knows digital safety. “Most social media experiences are safe, but seniors may be especially trusting, making it easy for older adults to become victims of bad actors,” shares Dave.

When it comes to social media like Facebook, Instagram, X, Blue Sky or other similar platforms, Dave says the key is to be cautious about anything that seems out of the ordinary.
