From Generation to Generation! | |
In this month’s newsletter, you’ll be introduced to recent stories of Gen Z students transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. These testimonials, which were turned in by our African Eagle Leaders, showcase how God is using the radically changed lives of one generation to impact the eternal destination of many others!
Philippe (Democratic Republic of Congo)
| | |
“Now I have hope!”
Philippe grew up in a Catholic family. His mother died when he was just ten years old. Five years later, a car struck and killed his father as he was walking down the middle of a road intoxicated. With the loss of both parents, Philippe had lost hope in life. He started abusing many different substances. For the next 6 years, alcohol, theft, and sexual exploits consumed his life.
One day, someone invited him to a youth event. He decided to attend because he heard they would have food there. A leader trained in Jesus-Focused Youth Ministry befriended him and began teaching him about God and what it meant to be a Christian. Philippe gave his life to Christ, was baptized, and now attends church regularly.
| | When asked about his changed life, Philippe said, “God has given me peace…now I have hope.” Relying on the power of God at work in his life, Philippe has turned from his life of addiction and lawlessness and is following Christ. He even helps teach a Bible study to others interested in learning more about God. | | Philippe investing in the next generation! | |
Gen Z reaching Gen Alpha in Zimbabwe
| | Tawanda teaching students how to be “Jesus-Focused!” | |
Cleo and Tawanda are in their 20’s and reaching the next generation with the message of God’s redemption and healing. Cleo struggled with drug addiction throughout his teenage years, but as a follower of Jesus, he now shares his testimony with others. Tawanda was caught up in a life of smoking and other destructive habits, but Jesus saved her, and she also openly shares about how she has now found purpose and identity in Jesus, and that He has truly transformed her life. Both of these young adults attended a Jesus-Focused Youth Ministry Forum where they were inspired and ignited by what they learned. Now, they are discipling teenagers in their church, teaching them how to walk that same journey with hope and purpose grounded in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Niyonkuru, Shadrack (Burundi)
| |
“I desire to please my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!”
Although Niyonkuru grew up in the church, it wasn’t until he attended a JFYM youth meeting at his church that he became a Christian. During that experience, he said that he felt as if the teacher was speaking directly at him. After the meeting was over, he found his father and asked for his forgiveness for the ways that he had lived in rebellion in their home.
Niyonkuru said, “I began to change my ways with immediate effect – changing my dress style, my hair style, and my moral behavior with God’s help. I began doing all of this without anyone forcing me to do so.
| | |
"I was doing all of this under the conviction of the Holy Spirit at work within me. I had never felt God’s peace like this before. And now, I am able to obey my father and my mother as the Bible commands. Most importantly, I desire to please my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
Niyonkuru is now speaking to teenagers about how God saved him and is transforming his life. “I have brought many of them to church already. I am appealing to them to run away from evil and come to Jesus!”
Victor Omondi (Ruiru, Kenya)

“He has set me free!”
“My name is Victor Omondi. Throughout my teenage years, I was trapped in the darkness of drug addiction, searching for meaning and freedom but only finding deeper brokenness. My life was spiraling out of control, and I had lost all hope. Everything changed when I encountered the love of Jesus through the ministry of Jesus-Focused Youth Ministry. Through their teaching and discipleship, I began understanding God’s amazing grace and His purpose for my life. I surrendered my heart to Jesus Christ, and He has set me free from my addictions and gave me a new beginning.
| | "Today, I am a committed follower of Christ, and it is my greatest joy to serve as a small group teacher in my church, helping others experience the same hope and transformation that Jesus has given me. I plan on attending a Bible college soon.” | |
