Tell us about your personal journey.
From the moment I met my junior high sweetheart, I had no idea we were beginning a lifelong adventure together. Twenty-eight years of marriage later, we’ve built a life full of love, laughter and purpose. Together, we've raised two incredible children, welcomed a wonderful daughter-in-law, and are excited to soon welcome a son-in-law into the family.
Alongside building my family, I have pursued my passion for understanding and supporting children's growth. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Human Development, followed by a master’s degree in Child Developmental Psychology—a path inspired by my deep fascination with how children learn, grow, and thrive.
What pivotal experiences shaped your current path?
Throughout my life, I have been blessed to work with young children in many capacities. Whether in classrooms, community programs, or one-on-one settings, each experience has deepened my appreciation for the unique spark every child carries. My work has been more than a career—it has been a calling, one that has allowed me to nurture young minds and hearts while continuing to learn and grow myself.
Looking back, my journey has been shaped by love—for my family, for my work, and for the children whose lives I’ve had the privilege to touch. Looking forward, I’m excited for the next chapters—both in the lives of those I love and in my own continuing story.
What are the most valuable lessons you've learned through your work?
I have learned so much through my journey of working with young children. They have reminded me that the simplest moments often hold the most joy – a shared laugh, a curious question, a small hand reaching for help.
I have learned patience isn’t just about waiting, it’s about slowing down enough to see the world through their eyes. Children move at their own pace, notice details we overlook and find wonder in things adults often pass by without a glance.
They have shown me the power of resilience. A scraped knee may bring tears, but moments later they are running again, ready to try once more. Mistakes are simply part of learning, not reasons to give up.
I have learned that every child is unique, carrying their own strengths, challenges, and stories. Listening—really listening—opens the door to understanding who they are and how they see themselves.
What drives your desire to contribute and make a difference?
I believe every child has limitless potential, and I’m passionate about helping them discover it. My goal is to spark curiosity, build confidence and nurture both academic skills and personal growth—creating a foundation that will serve them for life.
What are your highest hopes for democracy to unite and uplift and inspire?
My highest hope for democracy is that it becomes a true reflection of our shared humanity—uniting people across differences, uplifting every voice, and inspiring a collective commitment to justice, empathy, and opportunity. I envision a democracy where dialogue replaces division, compassion shapes policy, and every citizen feels empowered to contribute to the common good. How wonderful our world would be if we could all love one another despite our differences.
