Quiet Oaks House Happenings

Autumn Reflections

This year’s Autumn Reflections was not just an event; it was a heartwarming celebration that beautifully honored the memories of our residents and their families while fostering invaluable connections with our dedicated donors. The evening radiated compassion and showcased the unwavering support for the mission of Quiet Oaks, culminating in the remarkable achievement of over $120,000 raised for the Dr. Patrick Lalley Compassionate Care Fund, alongside $60,000 in sponsorship commitments. This ongoing support is a testament to the community spirit that Quiet Oaks was built upon, and it is this spirit that continues to sustain our essential work. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents and their families, ensuring they receive the high-quality, compassionate care they deserve.

Annual Appeal - The Jennings Family Story

In the gentle embrace of nature, a seed takes root, growing into a mighty tree that offers shelter, comfort and peace to all who seek its shade. At Quiet Oaks Hospice House, we plant seeds of compassion every day, nurturing them into moments of solace for families facing life's most challenging journey. Today, we invite you to join us in cultivating this garden of care, as we share the profound story of the Jennings family.

National Hospice Awareness Month

In a culture that often teaches us to resist mortality and a healthcare system defined by interventionism, the seemingly simple act of having a conversation about dying can have a profound impact. What does death mean in my life? If I am faced with a terminal diagnosis, how would my values shape my end-of-life journey? How do I want my loved ones to engage with me toward the end of my life? It's difficult to think about these questions, but it's important to have these courageous conversations with ourselves, family, friends and providers. Thank you to our Care Team and caregivers everywhere as we recognize National Hospice & Palliative Care Month.

It's Not The Hand - But The Heart That Gives

Annual Potato Donation

Correction from this potato donation we mentioned last month. These potatoes came from the Edling Farm in Clear Lake.

Cheesiest Potato Soup

We extend our gratitude to Rose Larson for generously sharing her delightful recipe with us! As we embrace the season of warmth and togetherness, we encourage you to gather around the kitchen, try out this delicious dish, and perhaps even share your own favorite potato recipes.

Homemade Bread

This picture holds a story that goes beyond the simple act of four women relishing homemade bread and jelly made by their dear friend, Joyce Zimmerman. It's a window into the warmth and solace that arises from sharing treasured childhood memories, particularly those tied to this delightful, melt-in-your-mouth soft bread that has been a staple in their lives. Thank you for sharing!

Windows Washed

We offer our gratitude to Andy Dillon for his dedicated efforts in ensuring that the windows of Quiet Oaks are beautifully clean, allowing our residents and their families to fully immerse themselves in the breathtaking fall views that surround us at this time of year.

Quilts of Comfort

Lori Humbert wanted to add some warmth to the sitting rooms, so she made these quilts that coordinate well with the decor in those spaces. Such heartfelt gestures significantly uplift the emotional well-being of everyone, reminding us of the power of kindness and creativity.

Out of The Blue Box

Volunteer, Laure Rostey brought the care team this box wrapped in blue, filled with all things blue, to give them an "out of the blue box."

Kayla Minke had the pleasure of opening the box, and you can see it was a much-needed act of appreciation. Thank you, Laure!

Rayus Radiology

These guys rocked the front yard landscaping project and baked up some fresh cookies for the house. From curb appeal to comfort food, we appreciate all the work they did.

Christensen Insurance Group

This group got out of the office, rolled up their sleeves and worked on a couple of our outdoor projects. Continuing on the curb appeal out front and enhancing the trail with wood mulch along the path. We are so grateful for their dedication to serving the community in this way.

Giving Back

Want it gone? Call John! Brush clearing and small tree removal are his specialty.

After having a family member here, John started sharing his talents with us. Tree grinding, dirt hauling and landscaping to name a few. If you stop out at the house, you may just find him riding around on his Bobcat. Thank you, John!

Circle Group

These ladies brought in a delicious lunch of chili, chicken noodle soup, homemade bread, salads and desserts! They nourished and filled us with their love. Thank you!

Oakmont Capital

This group collaborated on several jobs around the house. Cookie baking, trail raking and porch cleaning - what a crew! Thanks for creating a nurturing environment for our residents and families.

Ahhh, the sweet aroma of butterscotch cookies wafting through the house - it's like a warm hug for your senses! These two baked up delicious butterscotch cookies and had a great time doing it together.

Stunning Fall Flowers

The stunning flowers provided by Fresh Thyme continue to transform our space at Quiet Oaks, bringing a vibrant burst of fall color and life into the house.

Not only do they donate beautiful flowers each week, but they thoughtfully add numerous other items that are incredibly supportive to the house. Thank you, Fresh Thyme!

Celebrating 91 Years Old!

We had fun celebrating Arlen's 91st birthday earlier this month. Surrounded by friends, the celebration featured singing, an indulgent chocolate cake, and a festive birthday headband.

Happy Birthday, Arlen!

It is noteworthy that at 91, Arlen still comes out to volunteer at the house just about every day. This community, his purpose, one would not be the same without the other.

Art Wall at Quiet Oaks

Every month, we showcase the work of a local artist in the hallway at Quiet Oaks. This month, we have had the honor of displaying art from Linda Feddema. Her abstract, acrylic mixed media is an inspiring day-brightener!

Testimonial

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

"Being a nurse myself - it's always hard to trust others with your loved one, but I felt comfortable with the team at Quiet Oaks and could see how caring the staff were. They treated my father with great respect, as if he were their family. The level of support and care was very heartwarming."
