Pastor's Message

Dear Friends in Faith,

God often works by sending hope into difficult situations. Have you experienced this? Perhaps in a low time, or facing difficult decisions or loss, you weren’t sure that God (or anyone else) could help. Then God sends a dose of hope, one that gets you moving again.

We’ve shared stories in worship about hope that comes to people and circumstances where there is struggle, conflict or great fear. I reflect on our Christmas story and how Mary needed confirmation for what God had told her. She travels to stay with a much older cousin, Elizabeth, who is also facing an unusual pregnancy. Elizabeth blesses Mary...

On the Patio
Decorate a paper angel tree ornament and stop by the UMOM holiday card table on the patio this Sunday to purchase a gift of shelter for someone who's homeless.

Shop for Missions
Serendipities is open for the last Sunday of the year TODAY, so stop by 9 am-1 pm to buy holiday gifts, books, cards and more, or come back on Wednesday, December 21, for their final shopping day of the year. The store reopens on January 8, 2017. All proceeds support missions.

Christmas Eve/Day Services
You're invited to join us for one of five Christmas Eve services on December 24. Celebrate at 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11 pm. All services except the 3 pm will be in the sanctuary and include candlelight. One worship service will be held Christmas Day at 9:30 am, with Rev. Eve Williams preaching. On New Year's Day, we'll have two services at 9:30 and 11:15 am, with Pastor Dave preaching.

Jesus' Birthday Party is Sunday
Many of the children's Sunday School classes are having a birthday party for Jesus on Sunday. Please bring a baby gift, which will be donated to children at UMOM New Day Centers. Blankets, diapers, clothing, socks -- anything a baby would need or love. If you don't have a gift, that's ok too! Join us as we sing Happy Birthday to the newborn King and celebrate! Come back to celebrate again on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (Family Sunday).

Deliver Hope this Christmas
As we talk about speaking hope, we are also sending hope into the world through our Christmas Missions Offering. Use the GIVE NOW orange button on the website to donate to UMOM, the Wesley Community Center and the PVUMC Emergency Relief Fund, or use the envelope in the pew pocket.

God's story of Jesus, whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day, is a story of poor parents, who needed a place to stay, and who only attracted the notice of a group of poor shepherds working the night shift. Yet, when Jesus grew up, he changed the world. How's that for hope?
