Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

Christmas plans can be exciting and sometimes have to change rapidly. When my kids were all teenagers, I often felt that the best way to handle the holidays was to always have a Plan B and stay flexible. This Sunday, as we talk about “Coming Home” for Christmas, we look again at how God wants to make a home in each of us this Christmas. God wants to implant the gift of hope in us. When this happens, we can live and share a faithful hope in God’s work that spills out into the world around us.

This Sunday we’ll also talk about Joseph and how he handles the news of Mary’s pregnancy, his disappointment that makes him want to divorce her. God helps Joseph to move past his initial heartache, thinking that Mary has been unfaithful. Joseph hears God’s invitation to participate in this unfolding story of salvation...

Christmas Gifts for Congolese Refugee Family
We recently welcomed a Congolese family of eight to the United States and would like to help them have a merry Christmas. Our church is co-sponsoring the family through RAFT and Lutheran Social Services. The children are age 1-18. A RAFT Core Team is in place, but if you would like to serve with them, please contact Keith Sobraske . RAFT helps ignite faith, transform lives and create community by bringing God's love into action.

Worship and Fellowship at PVUMC
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) invites you to worship at 8 am, 9:30 am or 11 am this Sunday. The first two services are more traditional, while the later service - Ignite - is a distinctive alternative.

Open Table Grows at PVUMC
The Open Table began at PVUMC and has grown to support young adults like Michael, pictured in the middle of Rev. Brenda Smith and her daughter, Rachel. Michael is a graduate of the program and learned how to navigate life under the guidance of Open Table members who mentored him. A few weeks ago, we sent out a call to the congregation about another young man, Illario, who needed others to join his Open Table and commit to his support during the next year. Thankfully, you responded, and his table is ready to launch along with at least four others. God answers prayer and our members respond to the call for help — every time. Thanks be to God!
