Which Way Lord?
Lent begins Ash Wednesday, February 14. The clergy have recommended two books this Lent for church-wide study in small groups. At least five groups on campus are going to follow the book Which Way Lord? by Rob Fuquay, as well as two off campus. We've sold so many books, that we had to reorder! Stop by the office at the end of next week to get your copy. The themes in this book will align with those in worship. The YAL and Men's Breakfast Bible Study are following Renovate. Ebook options are available.

P astor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

Where have you found the good life for yourself? We navigate through many images of what a good life entails, often based upon wealth, possessions, success — values that may or may not fit well with our faith. Fortunately, Jesus gives us a different version of the good life, one that is lived in trust of God’s provision for us and in generosity. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us how to handle the pressures and stress of life when he says, “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God[d] and his[e] righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today. (Mt. 6: 31-34)

Giving up worry is rarely easy, but there is a step of finding and trusting that God does know what we need and what we are going through. The lilies of the fields and the birds don’t have to store up their treasures...

Paradise Perk and Serendipities
The youth are off on a Winter Retreat this weekend. Please pray for them and for the adults who are leading and chaperoning. Shannon Curkendoll, manager of PVUMC's on-site coffee shop, the Paradise Perk, is one of them. In her absence, her husband and daughter, Amber, will be managing the shop -- same hours as usual -- 9 am-1 pm. A 16-oz cup of fresh-brewed coffee from the self-serve cart only costs $2, and specialty drinks just a bit more. The Perk also offers a wide variety of espresso drinks, smoothies, teas, and soda. All proceeds support youth missions and make the life-changing trips we offer affordable for our church families and students. In 2018, the senior high youth go on a mission trip to Houston, to help clean up after Hurricane Harvey. Ask Christopher Wurpts about how you can be a part of it even if you aren't a member of the youth group.

The church gift shop, Serendipities, is also open Sunday mornings, 9-11 am, and on Wednesdays, 9 am-12 noon. Purchases support local missions.

NOTE: Childcare is availa ble with a 48-hour reservation for all our
events and classes on campus. Call 602.840.8360, ext 134.
