Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

One of the words that matters in our lives is gratitude, simply saying thanks. We’re drawn this time of year to reflect on the gifts we are thankful for in our lives. It may be around family or health, or some other blessings God has given that have enriched our lives.

I know for some this will not be an easy time or year to express our thanks. And yet, almost one third of the 150 Psalms in the Bible include words of thanksgiving to God. It’s a common sentiment for faithful people. When we are able to thank God, our heart opens up a bit. When we are able to thank God, our faith grows some. When we are able to thank God, we turn our attention away from self and towards our maker. Perhaps we look a bit harder or notice more about what God is doing for us. This can shift us. Light a Candle for a Loved One; Memorial Service of Light, November 19
We invite you to join us on Sunday, November 19, 2017 for the annual Memorial Service of Light at 6 pm in the Chapel. The service will be a reflective worship experience with scripture, prayer, music and candlelight — all of which offer us a way to connect with Jesus, and feel his presence when we are grieving. The Memorial Service of Light is a time to remember our loved ones who have died (recently or not). As the holidays approach, the grief we feel may be even more pronounced. There is comfort in knowing we are not alone in our grief, and that God promises hope and light, especially in the darkness. While it's too late to reserve a candle, everyone is welcome to attend this special service and the reception. Read More

The Prayers of Intercession are included in the Looking Ahead. Unless otherwise requested, prayer requests are e-mailed to the 200+ Prayer Team members and shared with pastors and staff. THANK YOU for Changing the World!
Thank you for providing Thanksgiving meals for families experiencing homelessness at UMOM, for donations of food and supplies, for packing hygiene kits for disaster relief through UMCOR, and for all the other ways you served and cared for others on Change the World Day. Special thanks to the volunteers on the CTWD committee who planned, organized and executed the event under the leadership of Dave and Nancy Hepburn. The breakfast burritos were a hit -- thank you, Jon Hearn and kitchen crew -- and thank you to the Fellowship Team and Missions Team for support. Together, we are God's love in action!

Turn Hunger into Hope December 2
PVUMC participated in its first Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) MobilePack event at the Phoenix Convention Center in 2013. Like Change the World Day, it was an event that brought the whole church together by mobilizing more than 300 volunteers who turned hunger into hope. Since then, we've participated in similar events, registering up to 100 adults, youth and children to help pack meals for hungry children around the globe.

On Saturday, December 2 , from 3-5 pm, you have an opportunity to turn hunger into hope with your own two hands by participating with others from PVUMC at FMSC's Holiday MobilePack event. We have 130 spots, so register today by emailing Jim at . Donate the day of the event ($50 suggested, but anything will help).

Thank you for subscribing. Update your profile/ email preferences below.
If you're interested in receiving Church and Society Ministry Team and VIP (Valley Interfaith Project) emails, update your subscription to include "Social Justice."
A Delegates Assembly will be held on Thursday, November 30, 6:30-8:30 pm in the church Fellowship Center to help citizens understand political power in Arizona and how issues in the VIP Human Development Agenda - like job training, public education, immigration and health care - shape our political future.
