Almost 175 people have signed up for Change the World Day, when we take church out of the building and into the community, Sunday, November 12, 8 am to 12 noon. Have breakfast on the patio and get energized to be God's love in action at one of a dozen local nonprofits off campus or on campus, sewing tote bags for foster kids, packaging food for the hungry or hygiene kits for victims of disasters. There's so much to do. Sign up your whole family TODAY on SignUp Genius.

Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

We live in a noisy era. Words are hurled at us, often thrown as weapons. You know as well as I do how words can do damage but can also elevate and inspire us. During the month of November, we’re talking about “Words to Live by.” On Sunday, November 5, All Saints Day, we focus on kindness, which can often seem in such short supply. Even a small act of kindness goes a long way, or it might stand out because it seems uncommon. Someone does something unexpectedly caring for us and we can be so pleasantly surprised. Yet kindness is a core element of our faith.

I often say as a benediction (which literally means good words) at the end of our worship, a phrase from the prophet Micah: remember what it is the Lord requires of you: to do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8). God wants us...

During the month of November, I invite you to visit our on-site coffee shop, the Paradise Perk , for all your coffee needs. A 16-oz cup of fresh-brewed coffee from the self-serve cart only costs $2 and this Sunday only, we'll have smaller 12 oz cups for $1 so you can taste how wonderful it is. The Perk also offers a wide variety of espresso drinks, smoothies, teas, and soda. All proceeds support youth missions and make the life-changing trips we offer affordable for our church families and students. Thank you for your generous support!

Light a Candle for a Loved One; Memorial Service of Light, November 19
We invite you to join us on Sunday, November 19, 2017 for the annual Memorial Service of Light at 6 pm in the Chapel. The service will be a reflective worship experience with scripture, prayer, music and candlelight — all of which offer us a way to connect with Jesus, and feel his presence when we are grieving. The Memorial Service of Light is a time to remember our loved ones who have died (recently or not). To reserve a candle(s) in honor of a loved one, and RSVP for a reception after the service, please email Rev. Andrea Andress at andrea@pvumc.org.  your name, email, phone number and the name of the person you are remembering with the candle. We have one more speaker event in the PVUMC Finding Common Ground series:

Thursday, November 9, 6:30 pm, Chapel

Where Do We Go From Here? “True Grit” and Experiential Strategies for Finding Common Ground

In this capstone lecture, Dr. Varnon-Hughes will help us understand the idea of “resilience” and why it’s an essential ingredient in establishing Common Ground. She will also share examples of tools and techniques you can use immediately in your everyday lives, and in your workplaces, congregations, communities, and families—to help become okay with uncertainty, and allow a posture of openness to deepen our engagement with others, with our own ethical or spiritual traditions, and with humanity.
