Trunk or Treat
Join us TONIGHT for Trunk or Treat, Friday, October 27, 6-8 pm. Kids of all ages are invited to Trick or Treat from 20 decorated car trunks, parked in front of the sanctuary. Enjoy the haunted house, games and crafts in the Fellowship Center. The Perk will be open, and the live band, “God Help Us,” features Senior Pastor Dave Summers on guitar and Church Administrator Mickey Price on drums.

  Dear Friend in Faith,

Listening for God is tricky. Sometimes we get great reception and have a clear sense of God’s presence and God’s word for us. Other time it seems like we get just silence, which is always a bit hard to interpret. Then there are the in-between moments, when we’re sense God has a message or direction for us, to guide or help us, but it’s not exactly crystal clear.

We wrap up our series on Elijah this Sunday, an early prophet (8th century B.C.E-Before the Common Era). After taking a courageous, but difficult stance against his king and queen, Elijah runs for his life. He opposes the idolatry of his time. He wants Israel to know the power and meaning of a relationship with the one, living God. Elijah ends up on the top of Mount Horeb (also known as Mount Sinai) and hides in a cave. Sometimes the pressures of life leave us wanting to withdraw in our own cave and leave the world for a while. Eventually...

Light a Candle for a Loved One; Memorial Service of Light, November 19
We invite you to join us on Sunday, November 19, 2017 for the annual Memorial Service of Light at 6 pm in the Chapel. The service will be a reflective worship experience with scripture, prayer, music and candlelight — all of which offer us a way to connect with Jesus, and feel his presence when we are grieving. The Memorial Service of Light is a time to remember our loved ones who have died (recently or not). To reserve a candle(s) in honor of a loved one, and RSVP for a reception after the service, please email Rev. Andrea Andress at andrea@pvumc.org.  your name, email, phone number and the name of the person you are remembering with the candle. The Prayers of Intercession are included in the Looking Ahead along with our weekly calendar and important news items. Unless otherwise requested, prayer requests are e-mailed to the 200+ Prayer Team members and shared with pastors and staff. On Wednesdays, a small team meets to pray and sends cards to those on the prayer list. Submit a prayer request using our online request form or call the church office at 602.840.8360.
Change the World Day and Snack and Pack Are Just a Few Weeks Away
For the past five years, PVUMC has packed Thanksgiving boxes for families at UMOM, and for the past four, we did this in conjunction with Change the World Day. As November 12 and our next CTWD gets closer, we ask you to be God's love in action by donating your time on November 12 , and in the weeks before, by donating food and supplies to Snack and Pack. Join us for a discussion on Why and How Do We See Others as “Different”?: The Ubiquity and Anatomy of Prejudice and Exclusion. Last night, Dr. Steven Neuberg, ASU, Psychology Department, spoke about how prejudice infiltrates all societies, shaping institutions and coloring much of everyday social interaction, often with extremely harmful consequences. When we feel threatened, or fearful, our reactions to outgroups elevate. Join others in a group discussion based on knowledge gained from the lecture. PVUMC Preschool Sells Zoolights Holiday Party Tickets
You're invited to come to a PVUMC Family ZooLights Holiday Party organized by the PVUMC Preschool Board. The party, which has been held on a Sunday in years past, will be on a Saturday this year, November 18, 5:30-8 pm at the Phoenix Zoo. Tickets cost $20/person (children under 24 months old are free), and will be available for purchase November 5 following worship or at the Preschool Office during the week. Ticket includes.
