Missio Update

June 3, 2020

It is with profound regret that MISSIO must again denounce racial injustice in our nation. The brutal killing of George Floyd, along with the recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, is deeply disturbing. We join with our black and brown brothers and sisters in repudiating inequity, rejecting violence, and seeking the common good.

But this is not enough. George Floyd’s life matters. His death must not be seen as a single event, but as the latest episode in a 300 year history of structural racism. This history must come to an end and we must be agents of godly change.

At MISSIO:
  • We resolve to love our neighbors as our Lord has taught us.
  • We resolve to lament the loss of life and livelihoods and the destruction of our city and communities.
  • We resolve to listen to the grievances of our black and brown sisters and brothers.
  • We resolve to continue to learn more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ in our day.

We can’t breathe if our sisters and brothers can’t breathe.
