Alice Ramsey was the first women to drive an automobile from coast to coast, all the way from New York City to San Francisco?
On June 9, 1909, Alice and three friends departed New York city in a brand new 30-horsepower Maxwell, donated by the Maxwell Motor Car Company.
They arrived at the St. James Hotel in San Francisco 60 days later after traveling for approximately 3600 miles.
Alice and her friends returned to New York by train. However, she repeated the trip 30 more times. In 1960, she was named the "First Lady of AutomotiveTravel."
